Prestige cucumbers appeared on Russian territory in 2007. It was bred by breeders of the Sedek agricultural company. Later, the hybrid was included in the State Register of seeds intended for cultivation in the West Siberian and Central Black Earth regions.
Characteristics of the variety
Prestige is a high-yielding, mid-early hybrid of the parthenocarpic type of pollination. It was bred for planting in open ground, but also produces a good harvest in closed areas. The plant is of indeterminate type (growth is not limited by the vine), medium-sized, flowers are predominantly of the female type. Bundle ovaries of 3–4 fruits are formed on the bush. The fruit ripening period varies between 40–50 days.
The Prestige cucumber is described as cylindrical, dark green with white stripes around the flower. There are many white prickly thorns on the surface. A cucumber with a length of 8–9 centimeters weighs 70–90 grams.
The pulp of the hybrid is juicy, light, without voids and hard seeds, and has a sweet cucumber taste without bitterness. With proper agricultural technology, the yield per square meter is up to 25 kilograms. The variety is intended for universal use. Cucumbers are great for making fresh salads, pickling, and pickles.
The variety is transportable, so it is excellent for sale.
Positive qualities of a hybrid
The Prestige cucumber has excellent characteristics and has proven itself well in Russia and neighboring countries thanks to:
- long period of fruiting;
- positive taste qualities;
- versatility of use;
- resistance to major diseases;
- transportability and long shelf life;
- resistance to temperature changes;
- independent pollination;
- easy tolerability of transplants.
And this is not a complete list of the advantages of cucumber.
Features of growing a hybrid
Prestige is a cucumber variety that grows well in neutral soil. Planting is carried out at an air temperature of 15-22 degrees. If you need to harvest early, the seeds are grown in seedlings. To do this, one month before planting in a permanent place of growth, the seeds are planted in a container with soil fertilized with organic fertilizers. Water with warm water, cover with film and leave in a warm place for germination. When the seeds hatch, the film is removed and the plants are placed in a warm, sunny place. The container is turned from time to time so that the sprouts do not lean in one direction.The seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place of growth in the first quarter of May.
When planting seeds in a permanent place of growth, the ground is prepared in advance. To do this you need:
- fertilize the beds with organic fertilizers;
- dig up;
- pour plenty of hot water;
- cover with film for a week.
After preparation, seeds are sown in the beds - 2 seeds per hole to a depth of 2-4 centimeters. The distance between plantings is left 50 by 30 centimeters. This makes it convenient to care for seedlings; they do not shade each other.
After seed germination, weak sprouts are removed, leaving one seedling in each hole.
Plant care
During the growth of cucumbers, they need to be looked after to obtain the desired harvest:
- Watering plants.
- Weeding the beds.
- Stepsonning.
- Loosening the soil after watering.
- Root and foliar fertilizer.
- Monitoring the emergence of diseases.
Here is a list of activities that result in a rich and high-quality harvest.
Weeding of the beds is carried out as the weed grows, and the soil is moistened as needed. Since the plant is indeterminate, in the absence of pinching, the green mass will fill the entire space, and the harvest will be meager. All varieties and hybrids of cucumbers are fertilized at least three times per season with organic and mineral fertilizers.
It is also necessary to constantly inspect plants to identify diseases, fungus, rot, and drying of leaves. When the latter are detected, the plants in the garden are treated with fungicides, and diseased sprouts are removed and destroyed.
Reviews of the hybrid Prestige
Thanks to the description, the Prestige f1 cucumber has reviews, mostly positive, from vegetable growers and summer residents. Here are some of them.
Marina Vladimirovna, 53 years old
I have been growing this variety for a long time, and still have no complaints.Plants feel great both in a greenhouse and in open ground; thanks to the female type of flowering, they can even be planted on a windowsill. Cucumbers are tasty and crispy. I use them for pickling and salting. Naturally, we have fresh cucumbers on our table all summer.
Vladimir, 45 years old
We live outside the city in a private house, we have our own garden, vegetable garden and a lot of livestock. That’s why we constantly grow cucumbers in our garden beds. We read the description of the variety on the website and decided to plant Prestige at home. The harvest is quick, a month has passed since planting, and the first greens have appeared. Moreover, ripening lasted until September. We ate a lot of fresh cucumbers and made a bunch. There are 50 jars of pickled cucumbers in the cellar. A very productive hybrid.
When properly grown, this hybrid has high yields, does not get sick and feels great both in open ground and in greenhouses.
