Timely applied herbicides help to significantly increase crop yields and reduce financial and labor costs. When choosing a drug, it is important to choose a product with a wide spectrum of activity that does not harm the protected crops and the environment. Composition, release form of the drug Optima
The basis of the drug is dimethenamid-P at a concentration of 720 grams per liter. This is a substance from the chloroacetanilide group.
The herbicide has the form of a concentrated emulsion, bottled in plastic canisters with a capacity of 5 or 10 liters. The holder of the marketing authorization is BASF.
Purpose of the product
The herbicide is classified as a soil preparation; it has the greatest effect on weeds that are in the germination stage. Optima's areas of activity:
- cereal weeds (annuals);
- dicotyledonous annuals.
Efficiency of herbicidal action:
Strong | Average | Minor |
spurge
buttercup galinzoga veronica nightshade purslane yasnotka forget-me-not field bristlecone amaranth |
knotweed
smoker chamomile quinoa Theophrastus ropeman knotweed field wild oat sow thistle shepherd's purse bedstraw |
pigweed
poppy bonfire field mustard |
Frontier Optima is used for processing soybeans, corn, sunflowers, and various types of beets.
How does the herbicide work?
Dimethenamide-P is a selective drug - it acts selectively on weeds sensitive to the substance. The effect of Optima lasts 10-12 weeks.
The herbicide damages germinating seeds; the effect on weeds during the growing season is weaker.
For the drug to exhibit herbicidal properties, the soil layer must remain moist. Dimethenamide-P inhibits protein synthesis, stopping nitrogen metabolism in germinating weed seeds. As a result, the root cannot grow, and the supply of potassium slows down. The embryo dies and the plant does not grow.
Outwardly, this looks like non-germination of seeds; growing shoots of weeds become ugly, deformed and die.
Advantages and disadvantages of the product
The following advantages of using Optima are highlighted:
- impact on a large number of weed species - the spectrum of activity is greater than that of other herbicides;
- no negative impact on protected crops;
- spring weeds are completely destroyed;
- does not affect crop rotation;
- no pronounced negative impact on the condition of the soil and the surrounding environment (not dangerous for bees).
Among the positive properties of Frontier Optima, they also highlight the possibility of using it in combination with other means for complex treatment of crops.
If the standards and regulations for use are observed, the herbicide has virtually no negative impact. Only toxic effects of dimethenamid on aquatic flora were noted.
Drug consumption measures
The use of the herbicide is regulated by the following standards:
Culture | Application rate Frontier Optima in liters per hectare | Multiplicity |
Sugar beet | 0.5 | 2 |
Soybeans
Fodder beet Beetroot (excluding early varieties) Sunflower grain corn |
0.8-1.2 | 1 |
The working solution is applied in a volume of 200 to 300 liters per hectare.
How to prepare a working solution
Special platforms are used to dilute the solution. Before opening the canister, the drug is shaken to bring the product into a homogeneous state. Pour the required amount of Optima into a tank filled one third with water and mix with a hydro mixer. Add water and mix again.
Information: Optima solution cannot be stored; it is used during the day.
Instructions for use
Recommended rules of application provide high herbicidal properties:
- The time to apply the solution to the soil is before planting or immediately after sowing.
- Soil moisture enhances the effect of the drug.
- If there is a lack of moisture, the solution is embedded in the ground to a depth of 3 centimeters.
The manufacturer recommends pre-planting treatment of shallowly planted areas - this is how the properties of Optima are especially pronounced. If the soil is dry, sealing is necessary.
If, after treating the fields with Optima, perennial thistles and dicotyledonous weeds that are difficult to remove appear at a later date, use:
- Bazagran – 2 liters per hectare;
- Pulsar – 0.8-1 liter per hectare;
- Galaxy Top - 1.3-1.7 liters per hectare.
Repeated pollination of crops is carried out in the early growing season (2-4 leaves).
Toxicity of the drug
Optima is considered a low-toxic drug - hazard class 3 for humans, hazard class 4 for bees.
Is it compatible with other substances?
The drug is compatible with herbicides – Stomp, Pyramin Turbo, Stellar, others.
To destroy all types of weeds from sugar beet crops, a scheme has been developed for the joint use of herbicides in a mixture:
Culture | Optima, in liters per hectare | Friendly herbicide | Cooking method |
Sugar beet | 1.1-1.2 | Pyramin Turbo – 2 liters per hectare | Pyramine is first introduced into a tank filled one-third with water and stirred. Add water to half the volume. Then pour in Optima, stir and bring the water to normal. |
To protect soybeans, it is recommended to pollinate with Bazagran (2 liters per hectare) after using Optima.
It is important to have time to re-process the crops at the 2-4 leaf stage.
Terms and conditions of storage
The herbicide is stored in chemical warehouses for no more than 36 months. It is recommended to maintain stable conditions. Avoid exposure to direct sun rays.
It is necessary to observe the temperature regime – from -10 ° to +40 °.If the herbicide is stored for a long time in conditions outside the temperature range, loss of properties is possible.
Similar means
Exact analogues of Optima are the following drugs:
- Roadblock;
- Difront;
- Reference.
The active substance is contained in them at the same concentration - 720 grams per liter.
The group of related drugs of the chloroacetanilide class includes the following herbicides:
- containing C-metolachlor - Gardo Gold, Avangard, Lumax;
- with acetochlor - Trophy 90, Harnes;
- with metazachlor - Butizan, Mezza, Sirius.
To treat crops, preparations based on herbicides of other groups are also chosen, focusing on the types of weeds.
Frontier Optima is a common choice for crop treatment due to its broad coverage and safety. The drug does not limit crop rotation, and if the regulations for use are observed, it does not harm the environment.
