Gardeners and summer residents always strive to get a good harvest on their plot. Plant diseases cause significant losses to their owners. Agronomists recommend treating vegetable and fruit crops with the drug “Hom” to avoid the harmful effects of pathogenic microorganisms. The fungicide actively fights bacteria of fungal origin.

Composition and release form of the drug "Hom"
“Hom” is the abbreviated name for copper oxychloride, the main active ingredient in the drug. Many people choose the inorganic version of the pesticide as an analogue of Bordeaux mixture, but more convenient to use.
“Hom” is produced in the form of powder, packaged in bags of 20 or 40 grams. The crystals of the substance are odorless and colored light green. The copper-containing preparation is not destroyed by temperature or ultraviolet radiation, but is susceptible to the influence of alkali. Causes corrosion of iron or galvanized surfaces.
Mechanism of action
The effect of the drug lies in the ability of the main component to neutralize pathogens. Penetrating into cells, copper oxychloride destroys the structure of organic substances and causes the death of bacteria.
“Hom” acts only on pathogenic microflora and does not affect the tissues of leaves, stems or trunks. Gardeners should be aware that salt crystals are washed away when it rains or waters the plants. In the soil, the drug breaks down into its component parts, which are absolutely harmless. Within six months the substances completely decompose.
What is it used for?
The spectrum of action of Khoma is wide. The drug protects:
The most common diseases | Type of flora affected by pathogens |
From late blight | Eggplants, potatoes, tomatoes and other nightshade crops |
From powdery mildew | Onions and cucumbers |
For coccomycosis, leaf curl or clusterosporiasis | Stone fruit trees |
From mildew | Grape |
The drug is also used against late blight, rot, spotting and various pests. Agronomists recommend using "Hom" for disease prevention. The pesticide cannot cope with advanced problems.
Dosage and instructions for use of the drug
The solution is prepared immediately before spraying. For one bag weighing 20 grams take 5 liters of water. First, the powder is dissolved in a small amount of liquid, then the required volume is added. Experienced gardeners introduce milk (1% of the total mass) as a fixing element.
Protection of tomatoes in greenhouses and open ground
“Hom” is used by summer residents to combat late blight in tomatoes both in greenhouses and in the garden. Treatment is carried out 3 or 4 times during the season. The intervals between sprayings are about 2 weeks.
The fungicide is diluted according to the standard scheme. One and a half liters is enough to organize spraying of plants on 10 square meters of beds. After 5 days, the tomatoes can be removed and eaten. It is better to write down the dates of treatments to avoid an overdose of the product and not to go astray.
Protection of cucumbers
Infection of cucumbers often occurs through the soil. Sources of infection can be the remains of diseased plants, low-quality fertilizers or seeds.
To protect vegetables, the soil is treated with Hom. The beds are prepared in the spring, before planting. The fungicide is diluted at the rate of 4 grams of powder per 1 liter of liquid. The prepared area and holes are watered with the solution. The seedlings are transferred to the soil after 2 days.
The bushes are sprayed with “Hom” throughout the growing season. Treatment begins half a month after germination. Repeat every decade until the plants bloom.
Fighting grape mildew
Copper oxychloride is also used to prevent mildew. After leaf fall or during flowering, the fungicide is not used. Spraying is effective when active shoot growth begins. The treatment solution is taken at a classic concentration, as for tomatoes.
Using "Homa" to spray the garden
"Hom" is included in the list of preparations required for use in gardening. The fungicide protects hops from downy mildew and from powdery mildew - gooseberries, raspberries and currants. Typically, about 2 liters of copper oxychloride solution are required to treat one shrub. The volume depends on the age of the plants and the planting area. During the summer, the fungicide is applied 3 or 4 times.
Processing of ornamental crops and flowers
Ornamental plants are also treated with Hom. The drug is used to combat rust or spotting of roses and phlox. Consumption of the product is standard; 1 liter of mixture is enough for 10 square meters of flower bed. Treatment is carried out before and after flowering.
Spray all parts - stem, leaves and shoots. Work is carried out in calm, not very hot weather. The use of copper-containing substances at temperatures above 30 °C causes chemical burns.
For trees
A copper-containing preparation is used to protect trees. The fungicide helps:
- Fight moniliosis and scab on pear and apple trees.
- As a prophylactic agent for treating cherries, plums and other fruit plants against coccomycosis, curl, as well as moniliosis and klyasterosporiosis.
- To prevent diseases of coniferous plantings. Effective against shutter and various types of rust of pine, spruce, juniper.
Treatment procedures are immediately organized when the first signs of green space disease appear.
Safety precautions for use
"Hom" is classified as a mildly toxic drug of hazard class 3.When using copper oxychloride, precautions must be taken:
- The operating time should not exceed 4 hours.
- For protection, wear protective clothing and hats.
- The respiratory organs are protected with a respirator, eyes are covered with goggles, and hands are covered with gloves.
- The fungicide is not used near water bodies or apiaries.
- Do not smoke or eat food while spraying.
- It is also not recommended to dilute the powder in kitchen utensils.
- Children and pets are removed from the Homa coverage area.
- After completing the work, you must take a shower or wash your face and wash your protective equipment with running water.
In case of accidental poisoning, call a doctor immediately. The action of the fungicide is neutralized by sorbents and by drinking large amounts of water.
Compatibility with other substances
Agronomists allow “Hom” to be combined with other substances. The copper-containing preparation is compatible with pesticides, fertilizers, and also with the insecticidal group. The addition of dithiocarbamates is beneficial in preventing chemical scorch of the leaves and increases the fungicide effect.
Copper oxychloride decomposes when exposed to alkali. Therefore, simultaneous treatment of plants with Hom, lime or Aktar will not bring any benefit.
Fungicide storage
Despite the low toxicity of the drug, “Hom” is advised to be stored in places inaccessible to children of any age. The fungicide is also dangerous for birds and domestic animals. The copper-containing product is left in a room with cool air and low humidity. When sealed, copper oxychloride powder will not deteriorate for 5 years.Violation of the integrity of the package will reduce the shelf life.
Analogues of the product
In addition to Khoma, gardeners successfully use analogues. The most common drugs:
- Oxychoma has a wide range of applications. The composition includes not only copper oxychloride, but also oxide. The product is intended to suppress pathogens at different stages of development. Suitable for spraying plants and adding to the soil.
- In Polychoma, the action of the active component is enhanced by polycarbocin. The fungicide is safe for plants, but it repels the Colorado potato beetle and prevents the laying of larvae.
- "Kuprikol" is aimed at combating the lower classes of phycomycetes. Fungal spores destroy inorganic substances and copper derivatives.
The persistence of the effect depends on compliance with all points of the instructions for the use of fungicides. Before spraying, the plants are watered abundantly. Water from a watering can or hose washes away medications, just like streams of rain. When working, use personal protective equipment.
Summer residents speak positively about the fungicide. “Hom” effectively protects plants from dangerous diseases. Copper oxychloride is easy to purchase at any flower shop. Use is not difficult, and the harvest will not suffer as a result of diseases of vegetable and fruit crops.
