Dutch breeders presented the ideal variety - the Director cucumber. It does not require pollination as it is parthenocarpic and is intended for growing indoors. Thanks to its characteristics, the vegetable has received numerous reviews from grateful gardeners.
Description
The cucumber variety Director F1 is a mid-season, parthenocarpic, indeterminate hybrid. The first harvest ripens 40-45 days after seed germination.
The liana is of medium length and climbing, with a large number of side shoots. When cultivated, it requires shaping and pinching. Ovaries with 2-3 female flowers are formed in the axils. When grown in a greenhouse, up to 3 cucumbers are formed from each bosom.
Director F1 cucumbers have medium-tubercular, cylindrical, elongated fruits. The length is 9-12 centimeters. Diameter from 3 to 9 centimeters. Weight from 65 to 80 grams. The skin is dark green, thin. There are barely noticeable light stripes coming from the flower. The pubescence is white.
The pulp is pale green, crispy, juicy, without voids. It has a bright sweetish cucumber taste without bitterness. There are no seeds in gherkins; the ripe fruit contains a small amount of them.
Due to its excellent taste, it is intended for salad use, as well as pickling, pickling and other types of preserves.
Advantages of the variety
An ideal description of a variety for growing in greenhouses, hotbeds and open ground, this is the “boss” among parthenocarpic cucumbers, has many positive qualities.
- High taste qualities.
- Powerful branched plant.
- Long-term fruiting.
- Lightweight and transportable variety.
- Proven disease resistance.
- Versatility in use.
- Possibility of obtaining a double harvest per season.
- Resistant to temperature changes.
Growing
To grow cucumbers in a greenhouse, seeds are planted in the ground directly - without seedlings. In garden beds in the northern regions, seedling planting is desirable - this way the harvest will come faster.
Preparing the soil for cucumbers involves applying mineral fertilizers, digging the beds and watering with hot water. After the manipulations, the beds are covered with film for 7 days. Afterwards, the polyethylene is removed, rows or holes are formed, and the seeds are planted.
Director F1 cucumbers are planted in the greenhouse with seeds germinated in damp gauze. The air temperature in the room at night should not be below +14 degrees. Daytime air temperatures should remain between 22-27 degrees. The soil in the beds is pre-fertilized with mineral mixtures - chicken manure, compost or cow manure.
The seeds are planted in a checkerboard pattern or in a row, with row spacing of 50 centimeters.
Cucumber care
During growth, cucumbers are fertilized up to 7 times. 3 times before flowering and 4 times while harvesting vegetables. Thus, the harvest will be stored for a long time and will delight gardeners with excellent taste.
The following are used as fertilizers for cucumbers:
- urea,
- ammonium nitrate,
- superphosphate,
- potassium nitrate,
- manure,
- chicken droppings,
- wood ash,
- humus,
- compost.
These fertilizers are used separately or in combination with each other. An excess of fertilizing is just as dangerous as a lack. Therefore, you need to adhere to generally accepted rules for feeding cucumbers.
Weeding is as important for obtaining a high-quality harvest as other manipulations. After watering, the soil around the plants is loosened. This is done to maintain soil moisture and reduce water consumption for irrigation.
Bush formation
Indeterminate varieties of cucumbers Director F1 require the formation of a whip; if growth is not stopped, the green mass will fill the entire greenhouse, and there will be little harvest.
For this manipulation, we count 8 leaves and pinch off the top, as we do with the stepsons. When forming a bush with two or three stems, the main bush is pinched until the desired length is reached, and the three stepsons are released. The rest are deleted. In greenhouses, a vertical growing method is used, the stem is tied to a crossbar. Thus, access to bushes and fruits will not be limited.
Disease Prevention
To prevent infection of the bushes, seeds and soil are disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate before planting. To detect diseases in greenhouses, plants and fruits are constantly inspected for the presence of dark spots, rot and other manifestations of fungal infections. If detected, treat plants and soil with fungicides. The measure will stop the spread of infection and preserve the harvest.
Review of reviews about the Director variety
Thanks to the abundant harvest, ease of cultivation and high-quality long-lasting cucumbers, the Director variety receives numerous reviews from agronomists and summer residents.
Dmitry Ivanovich, entrepreneur: “I have been using Director’s seeds for a long time and constantly receive high-quality fruits that are very popular on the market. I use the greenhouse method for growing and get two harvests in one season. Accordingly, the profit from the sale is twice as large.”
Irina Mikhailovna, housewife: “I have a small greenhouse, I plant cucumbers and tomatoes in it. It turns out to plant only 6 bushes, but they also provide us with delicious fresh cucumbers all summer and even autumn. I even manage to roll it up! Excellent variety!
