Recommendations for cultivation

The Khutorok cucumber is intended for cultivation in open and closed ground, and experienced vegetable growers have adapted to growing it on balconies:

dense and crispy

  • With the seedling method of cultivation, seeds are sown in early May, and in open ground - from late May to early June.
  • Before sowing, the seeds are soaked for a day in warm water.
  • The soil for planting is prepared in advance. Cucumbers have a superficial root system that does not take deep roots, so they need fertile soil for full development. To do this, the cucumber bed should be prepared in the fall: dig it up and add organic fertilizers - rotted manure or compost. If the soil is highly acidic, it should be limed.
  • Planting pattern - 40x40 cm. The seeds are buried no more than 2-3 cm, sprinkled with earth on top and spilled generously with warm water.
  • After sowing and before emergence, the seedlings are covered with film or non-woven material.
  • Cucumber is a moisture-loving plant; it is especially important to prevent the soil from drying out during the active formation of ovaries and fruits. Water the cucumbers only with warm water. The best option for preserving moisture is to mulch the plantings with mowed grass. In addition, mulch suppresses the growth of weeds and prevents soil compaction from frequent watering, which will provide the root system with oxygen without loosening.
  • It is not recommended to loosen cucumbers, since the roots are located close to the surface and are easily damaged. Instead, you can use a pitchfork to make holes in the soil 10–15 cm deep.

sowing seeds

Regular and timely harvesting extends the fruiting period and increases the yield of cucumbers.

Tips for growing cucumbers indoors

At home, Khutorok cucumbers can be grown all year round, the main thing is to create optimal conditions for normal growth and development of plants:

indoors

  • In winter (October to March), cucumbers will need additional lighting.
  • The place for growing should be chosen on the sunny side (window sill or balcony).
  • If the humidity level is low at home, it is recommended to place small containers of water near the plantings. Regular spraying of plants would be a good idea. But the best option, if possible, is to cover the cucumbers with film to create a greenhouse effect.
  • It is important to remember that the Khutorok cucumber does not pollinate on its own; it needs bees to produce fruit. Therefore, when growing in a city apartment, you should take care of pollination. You can use a soft brush for this.

If all care requirements are met, Khutorok will delight you with fresh, delicious cucumbers all year round.
