The Spino f1 cucumber, created by breeders from Holland, tolerates a lack of light normally and is grown in two rotations. This parthenocarpic variety does not require pollination by bees; fruits are set using pistils and stamens. Such hybrids are planted in film and glass greenhouses, and they also produce crops in open garden beds.
Description of fruits
All cucumbers that ripen 35–40 days after the growing season grow 12–14 cm in length. Their skin is covered with large tubercles. Zelentsy have a beautiful shade, there are no stripes or spots on the surface. The fruits are characterized by:
- cylindrical shape;
- lack of bitterness;
- excellent sweetish taste.
When outgrown, cucumbers do not change color and retain their attractive appearance. Zelentsy is used not only in salads, they are pickled in jars during the winter, and it is impossible to refuse lightly salted cucumbers. Hybrid seeds are produced by Syngenta and sold in different countries. It is impossible to collect the grains on your own.
Hybrid characteristics
Despite the fact that Spino cucumbers have been grown in Russia for only a couple of years, reviews indicate that the summer residents who first planted this variety did not have time to pick cucumbers. This had to be done every day. The characteristics of the hybrid attracted farmers; they sowed it twice and got a good harvest both times.
Due to the fact that the cucumber has short internodes and a narrow leaf plate, a lot of ovary is formed on it. The bush produces a small number of shoots; up to 5 green plants are formed in one bosom, which is typical for the bouquet type of flowering.
The parthenocarpic hybrid is not affected by:
- cucumber mosaic;
- powdery mildew;
- olive spot;
- gray rot.
This variety of cucumbers has its own characteristics that must be taken into account by those who are planning to grow it. A good harvest is obtained both during the first and second rotation, if the ovary is properly regulated. If this requirement is ignored, it crumbles.
The advantages of the Spino cucumber include:
- early maturation;
- long-term storage;
- resistance to temperature changes;
- high ability to recover.
From a square meter it is possible to collect up to 20–25 kg of dark green hybrid fruits, which do not lose their presentation when delivered over long distances.
The ripening of cucumbers does not slow down when lighting deteriorates.The fruits do not change shape or color, even if they are removed late.
How to plant a hybrid?
Golan cucumber seeds do not need to be soaked in potassium permanganate and wait until they sprout. The seedling method does not require special skills.
Light soil is poured into the pots, which is disinfected with a solution of the biofungicide "Glyokladin", which prevents the appearance of root rot in cucumbers. 2 days after such soil treatment, water is poured into containers, holes are made to a depth of 2 cm, cucumber seeds are placed and sprinkled with soil.
To prevent the soil from becoming crusty, a film is placed on top of the bed. When the first leaf appears, you need to deepen the seedlings and start picking. If you maintain the same humidity and temperature no higher than 22 degrees, the cucumbers will not stretch.
The seedlings are sent to the greenhouse 20–25 days after the sprouts emerge, placing 2.5 bushes per square meter. By then there should be at least 3 leaves on it.
With another growing technology:
- Water the soil in the garden bed.
- Holes are made every 20 cm.
- Place 5 cucumber seeds in the holes to a depth of 2 cm.
With the seedless method, 30 to 40 centimeters are left between the rows.
The second crop rotation is made possible by the fact that cucumbers ripen in insufficient light. To form powerful roots, the lower nodes of the bushes are removed. After a month and a half, another harvest of beautiful and tasty cucumbers ripens.
Care instructions
While farmers are just studying the description of the variety, the Spino hybrid has proven that it tolerates sudden temperature changes and prolonged absence of sun.
Caring for cucumbers includes:
- regular feeding;
- moistening and loosening the soil;
- weed removal;
- garter to the trellis.
To strengthen the roots and prevent a crust from appearing on the ground, the bushes are hilled after watering. To protect the plant from harmful insects and diseases, cucumbers are sprayed with fungicides in the form of Fitosporin-M, Gamaira, Binorama, and copper oxychloride.
In addition to manure and ash, mineral fertilizers are also used to feed cucumbers. During the growing season of the hybrid, nitrogen and potassium are added in equal proportions; when the ovary appears, the amount of the second microelement is increased, and the leaves of the hybrid are treated with a weak solution of copper nitrate.
It is better to water cucumbers in the evening, if this is not possible, early in the morning. The excess ovary must be torn off; it is enough to leave 2 dozen fruits on the bush. Then the cucumbers will have the same size and the yield will increase.
Despite the fact that the Spino hybrid was bred specifically for indoor soil, it is also grown in fields without seedlings. With each season, this variety of cucumbers becomes increasingly popular.
