Despite the large number of cucumber varieties, breeders continue to develop new ones. Not long ago, Zyatek cucumbers were developed. The Mother-in-law cucumber also has similar features. These varieties are included in the state register of agricultural plants and are used for cultivation under film shelters and in the open ground of personal plots of amateur gardeners in Russia.
Characteristics of cucumber hybrids
These cucumbers belong to the parthenocarpic type of hybrids. Their fruits ripen quite early. Mother-in-law and Son-in-law are characterized by very good productivity. The regions where they are most frequently grown are Ukraine, Russia and Moldova.
Cucumbers are characterized by resistance to typical diseases that affect this type of vegetable. This is also evidenced by reviews from gardeners who grew them.
The Zyatek cucumber variety is distinguished by its rather miniature fruits. Ovaries are formed in the axils of the leaves, 2-6 pieces each. The fruits can reach only 12 cm, and one weighs about 100-110 g. They have an oblong cylindrical shape, about 3-4 cm in diameter. The skin is dark green with long white stripes along the cucumber. The surface of the fruit is covered with small pimples.
A positive description of the variety is also that the pulp does not have a bitter aftertaste, it is juicy and crunchy when you bite into the cucumber.
The cucumber varieties Zyatek and Tescha are suitable for growing in open areas and in greenhouse conditions. Sowing seeds in the soil on a personal plot is carried out after the likelihood of recurrence of morning and night frosts has passed. This process usually begins in mid-May. The first greens can be harvested 42-45 days after germination.
Mother-in-law cucumbers are larger than Zyatek f1 cucumbers by only 1 cm, their length can reach up to 13 cm. Their period from germination to picking the first fruits is also one and a half months, but these fruits have a larger diameter and, accordingly, their weight is greater. The weight of Mother-in-law f1 cucumbers can reach 200 g.
On numerous large tubercles there are distinct types of spines. The pulp of the fruit is quite juicy and does not have a bitter aftertaste. In cucumbers Mother-in-law and Zyatek, the type of female flowering predominates. Up to several ovaries can form on a bush. These cucumber hybrids are grown in open areas and in greenhouses.
The main advantages of hybrids
The beloved Zyatek cucumber is adapted for growing in small garden plots; it has the following features:
- good taste and attractive appearance;
- possibility of universal use;
- cucumbers do not grow too large;
- good yield;
- does not disappear due to unfavorable weather conditions;
- possibility of transportation over long distances;
- undemanding to the care process during cultivation;
- resistance to certain types of diseases.
Teshcha and Zyatek cucumbers have a universal type of use. When fresh, they are added to vegetable salads, and they also acquire excellent taste as a result of pickling and salting.
Planting seeds
To speed up the harvesting process, cucumbers of the Zyatek f1 variety can be grown in seedlings. This method is also used in cool climate regions.
Note! Hybrid seeds cannot be obtained from cucumbers grown on your own plot. They are bought in specialized stores or purchased online.
Seeds in pelleted form do not require special preparation. But in other cases, they are sorted and disinfected before sowing. Then they are hardened and soaked to facilitate pecking. To grow seedlings, seeds are planted in containers in early April. The soil is used specially for seedlings purchased at gardening stores or at a flower stall.
The seeds are placed in the grooves to a depth of about 2 cm. Then the container is watered generously with warm water. For the next month, it is necessary to ensure that the plants are in comfortable conditions (no drafts and at average temperatures). After 30 days, 3-4 leaves will appear.At this time, the seedlings are considered ready for further transplanting into the ground. Do not plant seeds too early.
They are planted in a greenhouse in mid-May, and for planting in open areas they should wait another 15 days.
Cucumbers of the Zyatek f1 variety are distinguished by friendly and strong shoots. They have excellent viability and survival rate of seedlings. It can be grown both in residential premises and in a heated greenhouse. Seeds germinate at a temperature of +25+30 degrees. Approximately 7 days before planting the seedlings in the ground, they are hardened. In this case, the temperature briefly drops by 3-5 degrees.
Planting in soil and caring for plants
Preparation of the beds is carried out by preliminary digging up the soil with the simultaneous application of organic fertilizers in the form of thoroughly rotted manure. Seedlings are planted in beds with a distance between plants of at least 30 cm, and row spacing is left at least 50 cm. You can also use a 50 x 50 cucumber planting pattern. Planting 4 bushes per 1 square meter is considered optimal. m.
Caring for planted cucumber hybrids Zyatek f1, as well as a similar variety called Tescha f1, is not difficult. Even a novice gardener can master it.
To provide the necessary care during cultivation, you should regularly water the soil on which the cucumbers grow. This should be done only with settled warm water. It is advisable to carry out this process either early in the morning or before sunset.
It is advisable to hill up the bushes to help the formation of new roots. In addition, this will protect against the occurrence of fungal diseases. Cucumbers planted in beds are fed twice a month with a complex of mineral fertilizers.
To facilitate harvesting and in order not to injure the thin stems of the plant, they are tied to a trellis. As the stems grow, their growth is directed towards nets placed along the row. If the stems are very long, you can help them stay on the trellis by tying them in several places to a vertical mesh.
The formation of a bush is carried out by pinching the stems on which the ovary has not appeared. This is done after the whip has grown to 50 centimeters in length. If you follow the basic rules for growing Teshcha and Zyatek cucumbers, you can get up to 10 kg per 1 sq. m.
