The most effective selective action drugs that have an inhibitory effect on weeds include the herbicide “Proponit”. It is insensitive to weather conditions, which makes it possible to reduce the frequency of its use to a minimum. The high toxicity of the pesticide requires strict adherence to the instructions, rules for preparing the solution, consumption standards and safety precautions.

Composition, purpose and release form of the drug "Proponit"
The herbicide "Proponit" is based on propisochlor, an oily liquid that can dissolve in organic oils. For 1 liter of the drug there are 720 grams of active substance. Thanks to it, the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acid stops, as a result of which the root system stops its development. After treatment, a screen is formed in the top layer of soil that can have a secondary effect on new weeds and destroy them at the single-leaf stage.
Herbicide "Proponit" is produced in the form of an emulsion concentrate, packaged in plastic canisters with a volume of 20 liters.
Principle of operation
"Proponit" was created as an alternative to "Acetochlor". The new substance is more effective, moisture-intensive, and therefore even at high humidity it exhibits its inhibitory effect on weeds. It is used on crops of sugar beets, corn, rapeseed, sunflower, and peas. The effect of “Proponit” does not decrease even at low temperatures.
The herbicide accumulates in weeds, penetrating into them through sprouts and roots, and leads to death.
Benefits of use
The advantages of "Proponit" include:
- its high selectivity;
- possibility of use without an antidote;
- efficiency at high humidity and low temperatures;
- a large number of weeds destroyed by the herbicide;
- the ability to adjust processing times (before and after sowing);
- increasing the productivity of agricultural plants;
- long period of action of the drug;
- compatibility with chemicals in tank mixtures;
- lack of resistance;
- there is no restriction on crop rotation.
Among the disadvantages of the drug:
- high toxicity to bees and fish;
- danger to humans if precautions are not followed;
- prohibition for use on private farms.
Consumption rate
Spraying with Proponit is carried out once per season. After this, inter-row cultivation of crops is not recommended so as not to destroy the screen in the soil. The consumption rate of the drug is from 2 to 3 liters per hectare. The working fluid is used in an amount of 200-300 liters per hectare. If the soil contains 3% humus, the dose of herbicide is increased.
Preparation of working solution
Immediately before carrying out work on spraying crops, prepare a working solution. To this end, perform a series of sequential actions:
- Measure out the required amount of “Proponit” for one filling.
- Fill the sprayer tank 50% of the volume with water.
- Pour the mother liquor into the tank.
- Mix thoroughly.
- Add water and mix again.
- Start spraying in compliance with all rules and precautions.
How to use the ready-made mixture
According to the instructions for use, the working solution is used differently for spraying different crops:
- for soybeans, sugar beets, rapeseed - single treatment, before emergence;
- corn - before emergence or in the phase of 3-4 leaves on the crop.
Safety precautions when working with herbicide
When using a herbicide, precautions must be taken:
- Persons under 18 years of age, pregnant and lactating women, and patients with contraindications are not allowed to work with the drug;
- those carrying out spraying are provided with protective clothing, shoes, goggles, respirators, aprons;
- Smoking, drinking, and eating are prohibited at the treatment site;
- the dishes used to obtain the solution are washed, the water is poured into the tank, and it is stored in an inaccessible place;
- upon completion of work, the clothes are cleaned and placed in storage;
- If a toxic substance gets into open areas of the body, eyes or respiratory system, the victim is given first aid and sent to a medical facility.
The degree of toxicity of the drug
The herbicide "Proponit" belongs to the second class of danger for humans and the third - for bees. Such preparations can be used on an industrial scale under the supervision of plant protection specialists or by workers who have undergone professional training.
For personal plots, the use of herbicides is not permitted.
When processing, you should adhere to several rules:
- do not carry out work near apiaries (protection zone > 2-3 km);
- Apiary owners should be warned about the upcoming spraying with herbicides and limit bee flights to more than 4 hours;
- it is necessary to mow the weeds blooming around the perimeter before working in the fields;
- spraying is carried out in the morning or evening, in calm weather, with wind speeds less than 3 m/s;
- The drug is not used in water protection zones, near drinking water sources, or residential buildings.
Compatibility with other substances
To enhance the effect of Proponit, it is used in tank mixtures with other pesticides:
- "Pendimethalin";
- "Prometrin";
- "Dikamboy."
Mixing Proponit with alkaline chemicals is contraindicated. Before creating tank mixtures, a compatibility test should be carried out using small volumes of components.
After mixing there should be no sediment, foam, lumps or incomplete dissolution.
Terms and conditions of storage of the product
The herbicide is stored in its original packaging in a special warehouse, separately from fertilizers, fodder, water and chemicals. The container must be tightly closed and have the manufacturer's label. At temperatures from -5 ⁰С to +35 ⁰С the herbicide can be stored for three years from the date of production.
Substitutes
Analogs of the drug that have the same active ingredient as “Proponit” include herbicides:
- "Acetal Pro";
- "Labrador";
- "Pronto."
