Farmers who sow their fields with sugar and table beets plan to harvest a rich harvest for their own needs and subsequent sale, but the development of plants is disrupted by weed grasses. Chemicals must be used to control weeds. Farmers respond positively to Betanal because the German-made herbicide, although expensive, effectively copes with the task and destroys weeds.
Composition and release form of the herbicide
The selective herbicide developed by the German company Bayer contains two active substances. These are phenmedipham and desmedipham, both belong to the chemical class of bicarbamates. One liter of Betanal contains 160 grams of each component.
The chemical is produced in the form of an emulsion concentrate, which is packaged in 5-liter plastic canisters.
Purpose and principle of operation of the product
Selective herbicide "Betanal" is specially developed for the destruction of dicotyledonous annual weed grasses that choke plantings of sugar, table and fodder beets.
The unique formula of two active components helps to slow down the Hill reaction, the main process responsible for photosynthesis in weeds. The chemical has a negative effect only on those weeds that have already sprouted at the time of treatment; it does not affect the grasses that appeared after spraying. The first signs of weed death become noticeable after a week.
Preparation and use of working solution
The instructions for use indicate the dosage of the drug and the method of preparing the working solution, so even a non-expert in agriculture can cope with cultivating the fields. Depending on the degree of contamination of the site, use from 1 to 3 liters of chemical per hectare of plantings.
Pour clean water into the sprayer tank (up to half the volume) and add the recommended dose of the drug. Turn on the mixer and wait until the consistency becomes homogeneous. After this, add water to the full volume and mix thoroughly again. To process 1 hectare of field, from 100 to 200 liters of working fluid are used.
They begin to treat the plantings when massive germination of weeds is observed. Spraying is carried out in the morning or evening, at an air temperature of 15 to 25 degrees. For Betanal Expert to show its working qualities, it is necessary that there is no rain within 6 hours after treatment.
Safety precautions when working with Betanal
When working with Betanal, as with any chemical, you must be careful, even despite its low toxicity. The person carrying out the spraying must wear protective clothing - overalls, gloves, headscarf. To prevent chemical vapors from entering the respiratory tract, use a mask or respirator.
At the end of the work, all clothes are washed and hung in the fresh air for ventilation. The farmer takes a shower with detergents to remove any remaining solution. If the working fluid accidentally gets into your eyes or skin, wash them with plenty of water and go to a medical facility, remembering to take the herbicide label with you.
Compatibility with other drugs
The instructions indicate that Betanal can be used in tank mixtures with other post-emergence herbicides. However, you must first conduct a chemical compatibility test using a small amount of each product.
Features of herbicide storage
The shelf life of the herbicide is 3 years from the date of manufacture, provided that storage rules are followed. Keep the chemical in an outbuilding, where it is dry and dark, the recommended temperature is no higher than 30 degrees. It is also necessary to ensure that pets and small children do not have access to the drug.
What can be replaced?
If Betanal is not available for sale, it is allowed to replace it with drugs such as Triumph or Vitalon Expert.
