Herbicides are chemical compounds that can stop the growth of weeds and woody vegetation and quickly clear large areas of unwanted thickets. There are herbicides for agricultural and other purposes. Imazapyr is the active ingredient in several herbicides and pesticides.It appears as white crystals that are not stable in light with a slight vinegar odor. Solubility in water is 60%. Decomposes when exposed to sunlight and various acids. Refers to continuous action herbicides. Imazapyr is part of single-component and multicomponent agrochemical compounds.
It is sold in the form of a water-dispersed 25% solution of imazapyr, in plastic canisters of 10 liters and has various trade names (“Arbonal”, “Arsenal”, “Shkval”). Has a hazard class 3 for humans and bees. Each container of herbicide is provided with detailed instructions from the manufacturer on the rules and conditions for using the product.
Purpose and principle of operation
This is a non-selective herbicide suitable for controlling annual and perennial weeds, shrubs, trees, and quickly clearing clearings. The active substance (imazapir) is absorbed by all parts of plants (roots, branches, leaves and stems of herbs). It accumulates at growth points and, integrating into the DNA system, reduces and then blocks the synthesis of ribonucleic acid and protein. Due to this, the process of cell division and plant growth slows down and then stops.
First, the herbicide acts on young shoots, and then on the mature plant. Plantings remain green for a long time, since imazapyr does not affect photosynthesis. When it gets on the soil, it remains in the top layer for a long time and prevents the germination of seeds and new shoots.
Herbicides based on imazapyr are slightly toxic to fish and bees. Provide long-term protection for 1-2 years. Processing is carried out from May to October, in cloudy, dry weather.Imazapyr is perfectly retained on the surface of the soil and plants, even if it starts to rain within an hour after treating the area, the herbicide continues to act without reducing its activity.
Instructions for use
Imazapyr is used only on non-agricultural lands. It is not used for cultivating fields with cultivated plantings.
Herbicides containing this active ingredient are treated with:
- airfield areas;
- sports grounds;
- power transmission rights-of-way;
- railway embankments;
- rights-of-way along highways, oil and gas pipelines.
The consumption rate of the preparations is from 100 to 300 liters of working solution per hectare. The working solution is prepared and used on the day of use. It should not be stored for more than 6 hours. Herbaceous plants die completely 1-2 weeks after treatment; to eliminate shrubs and trees it takes 3-5 weeks.
Safety precautions when working with the drug
If you follow the manufacturer's instructions for working with drugs containing imazapyr, it does not pose a danger to people.
The working solution of the products is prepared in specially equipped areas where strangers and pets are not allowed. When preparing the working mixture and carrying out work, specialists must be provided with: protective suits, goggles, respirators and protective rubber gloves. Personnel must undergo safety training when working with toxic agrochemicals and have the appropriate permit. It is not allowed to smoke, eat or drink during preparation or when working with the drug.
After treatment, thoroughly rinse the sprayer to remove any remaining working solution.
Compatibility with other drugs
Imazapyr-based herbicides are suitable for preparing tank mixtures with neutral or alkaline formulations. Acids destroy imazapyr.
Storage rules
Store in specially equipped premises, in the manufacturer’s container, with a tightly closed lid, indicating the trade name, composition and rules of use. Agrochemical products must be inaccessible to children and animals. They are stored away from feed and food products.
