When producing feed and developing a line of mixtures, manufacturers take into account not only the requirements of customers, but also the emergence of new technologies for the production of poultry food. Turkey food from Purina is a balanced mixture of cereals and mineral and vitamin elements. It is noteworthy that food is produced for turkeys of different ages, taking into account the physiology of the bird.
Classification of the Purina line
The advantage of the Purina feed manufacturer is the constant improvement of poultry diets. Currently the line includes four products:
- “Starter-1” - consists of crushed cereal grains (wheat, corn), processed soybeans and sunflowers, fats (vegetable oil, fish oil);
- “Starter-2” – includes wheat, corn, soybean and sunflower meal, limestone and fish flour, vegetable oil. Feature – the grinding of grains is coarser;
- "Starter-3" is called "Grower". The composition also includes wheat and corn grains. Soybean meal is excluded. What remains is vegetable meal, limestone and fish flour, vegetable oil;
- “Finisher” food – consists of ground grains of wheat, corn, barley. Also included are limestone flour, vegetable oil.
It is noteworthy that each type of food contains a vitamin and mineral complex. The manufacturer also adds a probiotic to the mixture to suppress the growth of pathogenic microflora. The composition also includes enzyme preparations that promote better digestion of food and absorption of nutrients.
Selection of ready-made food
When choosing a mixture, the age of the bird is taken into account. The composition of the feed remains virtually unchanged, but the nutritional value is selected in accordance with the needs of the bird’s body at a certain stage of growth:
- chicks aged from birth to 3-4 weeks are fed with the “Starter-1” mixture, which ensures rapid growth of the chicks, the formation of a healthy skeleton and good weight gain. The main nutritional value comes from crude protein;
- From four weeks of age, turkey chicks are switched to Starter-2 food, which ensures healthy growth and development of chicks and promotes the formation of immunity. The content of crude fat and crude fiber in the feed increases;
- “Grower” mixture is used to fatten poultry aged 9-15 weeks.The content of crude protein in the feed decreases and the proportion of crude fiber increases.
Poultry over 16 weeks of age are switched to Finisher feed. The composition is used for continuous feeding of adult turkeys.
How to make a composition with your own hands?
Some farmers practice preparing their own feed. This is a simple process that can be done at home. In order for the composition to be nutritious, it is necessary to adhere to a certain recipe, taking into account the age of the bird.
Chicks 0-2 months | Turkey poults 2-4 months | Bird from 4-6 months | |
Wheat bran | 7 % | 18 % | 10 % |
Corn bran | a third of the mixture | 40 % | 35% corn and barley bran each |
Soy/sunflower cake | 32% and 9% respectively | 9% and 10.5% respectively | sunflower cake 3% |
Fish meal | 5,5 % | 5% each fish meal, bone meal, herbal meal | grass meal 7%, fish meal 4% |
Chalk | 3,5 % | 1,5 % | 1,5 % |
Basic requirements for self-made food: thorough mixing of ingredients, careful addition of vitamin and mineral supplements in the required quantities. It is not recommended to mix large amounts of feed in advance.
Feeding standards for turkeys
When raising poultry, feeding standards should be observed, since too large amounts of food eaten contribute to obesity. The exception is the egg-laying season, when turkeys are fed as much as they want.
As a rule, manufacturers indicate the daily allowance for poultry based on its age. When using Purina, adhere to the following numbers:
- for turkey poults up to 3 weeks of age, use Starter-1 feed (0.95 kg for the entire period);
- birds aged 4-8 weeks are fed 6.15 kg (for the entire period) of the Starter-2 mixture;
- Turkey poults aged 9-15 weeks should eat 18 kg (per period) of Grower feed.
Adult birds over 16 weeks of age are fed the Finisher mixture per week (3.55 kg turkey and 5.85 kg turkey).
If you adhere to the standards specified by the manufacturer, then rapid growth and maximum weight gain of the chicks will be guaranteed. Turkeys will also develop a developed gastrointestinal tract and strong bones. And as a result, the farmer will receive large carcasses with natural, tasty meat.
