Description and characteristics of strawberries of the Maryshka variety, cultivation and propagation

Breeders from Holland, Russia, Italy and other countries are constantly developing new varieties of strawberries. The fruits of the plant are rich in vitamins and microelements and are valued not only for their delicate aroma and amazing taste, but also for their unique properties. Berries act as an antioxidant, prevent cell aging, and improve vision. Many gardeners continue to grow the Maryshka strawberry, although, unlike the remontant varieties that have appeared, it produces one harvest per season, but the fruits are larger in size.

Description of strawberries

Maryshka garden strawberries were first grown in their homeland in the Czech Republic, but the variety quickly gained popularity in many European countries. Compact, low bushes produce a stable harvest of berries weighing about 50 g. The fruits ripen quickly and, when ripe, acquire a dark red hue and a glossy shine.

Strawberries make you happy:

  • excellent taste;
  • delicate garden aroma;
  • dense texture.

The flower stalks do not hide under the leaves, the berries grow in the form of clusters, do not touch the ground, do not become dirty, do not rot, and ripen in the second decade of June. It is convenient to collect fruits because they are located at the top. Strawberries can be transported over long distances; the dense berries do not lose their presentation and do not leak juice.

Characteristics of the variety

From one Maryshka bush they collect up to 500 g of fruits of various shapes, and about 2 kg per square meter. Strawberries have strong roots that are not affected by rot. The plant rarely suffers from disease, withstands extreme heat, and tolerates frost normally.

Positive and negative aspects of garden strawberries

Farmers became interested in the description of the Maryshka strawberry, since the berries with a dense texture can be grown on an industrial basis and sold not only in the neighboring region, but also in another country. The variety has many advantages, including:

  • high productivity;
  • resistance to adverse conditions;
  • friendly ripening of fruits;
  • aroma of wild strawberries;
  • the presence of immunity to certain diseases.

The fact that the berries are harvested once a season cannot be considered a disadvantage of strawberries, since they do not belong to the remontant variety. The plant grows a lot of tendrils, which are excellent planting material, but the excess ones have to be constantly cut off. In addition to the positive aspects, the variety also has disadvantages - lack of resistance to frost.

The subtleties of growing strawberries Maryshka

Garden strawberries, created in the Czech Republic, are considered unpretentious in care, but in order to consistently harvest a high yield of large berries, you need to comply with the requirements of agricultural technology and study the peculiarities of cultivation.

Selection of seedlings

To prevent strawberries from withering or suffering from diseases, you need to choose healthy tendrils or purchase bushes with strong roots with a neck larger than 0.6 cm. Seedlings with curled leaves covered with whitish spots should be discarded, since even if they are accepted, they will be harvested It's not worth counting on. The plant should have a lush dark green hue.

Selecting a site for planting

Although strawberries take root in the shade, they love an open, well-lit place. Strawberries should not be grown near bushes and trees. Sweet and large berries ripen only in the sun. It is not recommended to place seedlings next to tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes that suffer from fungal diseases. Infection from such crops is transmitted to different plant species.

Strawberry roots are affected by gray rot in waterlogged soil. Before planting bushes, in a place where the water comes close to the surface, add soil or make a drainage layer.

How to prepare the soil

The strawberry variety Maryshka feels comfortable on fertile soils and grows normally on loams with slight acidity. Before spring planting in October, they dig up the ground and 1 sq. meter of area contribute:

  • humus - 5 kg;
  • superphosphate - 3 tablespoons;
  • potassium chloride - 20 grams.

The site is prepared in April or May, fertilized with organic matter if the strawberries are planted in the fall. During the growing season, the bushes grow greatly, so a distance of 30 cm is left between them.

How and when to plant

In the southern regions, spring passes quickly; after a not very warm April, the heat immediately begins. Young strawberry bushes planted at this time do not have time to take root, dry out from the heat and die. Autumn in the southern regions lasts a long time, and the bushes are well received and winter normally.

In temperate climates, it is better to send strawberry seedlings into the ground in the spring; the first berries will ripen in the summer. Strawberries will put out tendrils, and by autumn they will form rosettes that can already be placed in the soil.

In the northern regions, strawberries are planted at the end of July and throughout the first ten days of August, but the Maryshka variety does not take root in these regions and does not grow either in Siberia or the Urals.

Before the procedure, dissolve half a glass of salt and 1 teaspoon of copper sulfate in a bucket of water. A strawberry bush along with leaves and roots is dipped into the prepared mixture for a quarter of an hour.

seedlings in a box

Maryshka seedlings are placed every 30 cm, with a distance of 06-0.7 m between rows.

First, holes are dug, then the bush is lowered into them, covered with earth without straightening the root, and the rosette is left above the soil surface. The soil is watered and covered with peat or humus.

Strawberries are planted in rows, bushes, nests, when up to 7 plants are placed in one hole.

Rules for caring for crops

The Maryshka variety pleases only gardeners who carefully care for their plants with a high yield, large and sweet berries.

Soil and fertilizer

Organics and mineral complexes are added during site preparation; the planted bushes are fed only in the second year with a solution of mullein or bird droppings in a ratio of 1 to 5 and 1:20 to water.

Strawberries are fertilized every spring, in the south this is done in the first ten days of March, in mid-latitudes by the end of the month - in early April. To strengthen the stems, accelerate the development of buds, and improve the formation of ovaries, the bushes are sprayed with a special composition. To prepare it, dissolve 2 g of potassium permanganate, boric acid, 20 ml of iodine, and 2 tablespoons of fertilizer for berry crops in a bucket of warm water. The second time foliar feeding is carried out before the flowers appear.

Substances containing nitrogen are carefully added under the strawberries. If there is a shortage of this component, the leaves lighten, tasteless and small berries ripen, and if there is an excess, the fruits rot.

Watering and humidity

The Maryshka variety does not tolerate drought well. The first days after planting, the bushes are irrigated every day. If the weather is cool and the strawberries take root, the amount of watering is reduced to once a week. In hot weather, the plant will need more moisture. When it rains, irrigation is stopped so that the roots do not begin to rot. Water for irrigation is stored in barrels, where it is heated and settled.

Loosening and weeding

In March or early April, rotten and dried leaves and stems, in which insect larvae and fungal spores overwinter, are removed and burned from the strawberry bed. The first weeds are easily pulled out by hand. After watering and fertilizing in dry weather, you need to carefully loosen the soil, trying not to catch the roots. The bushes should not be hilled; it is better to make small holes in the ground through which air can pass. Weeds should be removed as soon as they appear again.

Mulching

After applying fertilizers and irrigation, the soil under the Maryshka strawberry bushes is covered with peat, straw, agrofibre or sawdust. Thanks to mulching:

  1. Water evaporation slows down.
  2. Fewer weeds grow.
  3. The berries do not get dirty on the ground and sand.

Both organic matter and agrospan retain moisture and accelerate fruit ripening. The covering material protects the roots from hypothermia.

Relation to temperature

Strawberry Maryshka is not resistant to severe frosts, but grows well in mid-latitudes; in the south it requires partial watering, but it tolerates heat better than cold.

Protection from diseases and pests

A variety of garden strawberries, created in the Czech Republic, is immune to viruses and bacteria, but is susceptible to fungal infections. Preventing the proliferation of these microorganisms helps by soaking the seedlings in a composition for the preparation of which 5 g of copper sulfate and 25 g of soda are dissolved in a bucket of water.

When there is excess moisture in the soil combined with damp weather, root rot develops. To prevent the disease, strawberries are sprayed with fungicides.

The Maryshka variety suffers from:

  • from whitefly larvae;
  • strawberry beetle;
  • weevil.

To protect the plant from parasites, use "Karbofos". Bushes are treated with this product in dry and cool weather.

Strawberry propagation

Strawberry plantings are renewed after 3–5 years, as the plants age, the yield falls, and the berries decrease. To breed the Maryshka variety, 2 methods are most often used.

Usami

When strawberries bloom, which is usually observed in May, the vegetative buds swell and form several shoots called tendrils. For propagation, the first rosettes are selected from the strongest young bushes; all that still appear are removed.In July, 2 or 3 shoots are sprinkled with earth, watered, weeded, and the soil around them is loosened.

In August, the mustache is cut off, and the rooted bushes are planted in a new place every 30–40 cm, with an interval of 60 cm between rows. The bed is watered abundantly, and after a week it is fertilized with a weak solution of bird droppings. In autumn, the seedlings are covered with pine needles.

Dividing the bush

If there are not enough tendrils to propagate strawberries, dig up a fruit-bearing plant no older than 4 years old. Using a well-sharpened knife, divide the bush into several shoots, which should have 3 leaves and a root. Each part is planted in the ground.

Possible difficulties during cultivation

Summer residents usually do not have any special problems with the Maryshka variety. Strawberries quickly take root and, with normal care, do not suffer from diseases or insect infestations. Beginning gardeners sometimes water plants incorrectly; bushes should not experience either a lack or excess of moisture. In the first case, the fruits become smaller, in the second, the roots rot.

Harvest and storage

Strawberries should be picked a day or two before they are fully ripe. The berries are picked along with the stems and placed in one layer in a basket or box, which is covered with paper or a cloth napkin. Due to their dense texture, Marishka strawberries can be stored in a glass jar placed in the refrigerator for a whole week. The berries are best frozen or used for making compotes and jams.
