Quails are highly sensitive to violations of the diet and regime. Their body reacts especially acutely to deficiency or excess of vitamins and minerals. In addition, the process of assimilation of nutrients can be disrupted under the influence of climatic factors, lighting, and temperature conditions. It is precisely such violations that lead to prolapse of the oviduct in quails.
Causes of the problem
The reason that a quail's oviduct has fallen out is most often due to improper housing of the birds.The essence of the violation is that young quails (30-45 days old) are fed nutritious food for adults, and also use intense lighting for 20-24 hours. As a result, the sexual development of birds occurs earlier than expected, while the body of quails has not yet had time to fully form.
This disease also occurs in adults. The reason in such cases is a deficiency of vitamins A and D2 in the daily diet of quails. It is worth noting that blockage of the cloaca and death of females are often signs of pathologies such as salmonellosis and colibacillosis.
Associated symptoms
Prolapse of the oviduct is detectable with the naked eye. At the same time, the bird loses its appetite. The quail sits all the time, ruffled. Sometimes the oviduct may fall out along with the egg. Such cases lead to death.
What to do if the oviduct prolapses in quails
It is impossible to cure a sick bird, so the main attention should be paid to the prevention of this pathology in birds, especially in young quails. Preventing the development of the disease will help by compiling a menu for females in accordance with the needs of the body, which are determined by age characteristics. The most important measure is the inclusion of mineral components and vitamin complexes in the diet.
If symptoms occur, you can try to help by adding a double dose of vitamins A and D2 to the birds' menu for a week. However, even if successful, surviving quails are not able to lay eggs and are therefore subject to culling.
Prevention
To prevent prolapse of the oviduct, resort to the following measures:
- Changing the diet, bringing it in accordance with the norms.Do not feed young birds with complete food intended for adults. The quail menu should include foods containing vitamins A and D2:
- yeast;
- greenery;
- fish and meat and bone meal.
- Normalization of daylight hours. Starting from an early age, quails are provided with daylight hours of the required duration (no more than 20 hours).
- If a blockage of the cloaca is detected in young animals, the problem must be eliminated immediately.
In the latter case, you will need tweezers, with the help of which you can remove the dried droppings that have accumulated under the tail. Then the skin is washed with warm and clean water. The last step is to treat the cleaned area with brilliant green (vegetable oil is an alternative).
Prolapse of the oviduct is a consequence of improper maintenance of quails. The main reasons that can lead to a fatal disease are errors in feeding and organization of daylight hours. Unfortunately, this condition cannot be treated, so the main way to combat the pathology is prevention. Under no circumstances should young birds be fed food intended for adult birds. It is also important not to allow daylight hours to extend to 20 hours a day.
