Thanks to the selection and improvement of old crops, new varieties of tomatoes appear on the consumer market. Each variety is endowed with its own individual characteristics, including certain methods of cultivation in greenhouse conditions or in open ground. But such traditional planting methods are no longer relevant in the modern world. A newer and more rational option is the lazy way of growing tomatoes. But, as practice has shown, in order to increase its effectiveness, you need to follow the exact sequence of work.
Preliminary work
To obtain good tomato yields for lazy people, you will initially need to carry out preliminary work on organizing places for growing seedlings and their further development. These places on the plot are prepared in the fall, with certain rules and sequence.
Preparing a place for growing seedlings
To grow tomato seedlings the lazy way, you will need to build a mini greenhouse for planting seeds. Its design is carried out in the following way:
- In the selected area, holes measuring 50 cm x 100 cm and up to 30 cm deep are dug.
- Layers of rotted manure with fine straw are placed and compacted into each recess.
- Along the holes, without a bottom, a greenhouse structure is created from boards.
- Arcs are installed at the top of the greenhouse.
- The entire structure is covered with plastic film.
The created seat is left in this position until the beginning of spring.
Preparing holes for transplanting seedlings
For the constant growth of plant bushes, you will also need to first prepare their location. To do this, a well-lit place with deep groundwater is selected on the plot. If a vegetable crop is grown in a dark area, it will stretch upward. If the water is close to the surface, the root system will begin to rot due to excess moisture.
So, having decided on the location, they begin to organize holes for transplanting seedlings in this way:
- With a maintained distance of just over 1 meter from each other, holes measuring 0.4 x 0.5 meters and a depth of about 35 cm are dug. In this case, the dug soil is placed next to the recess.
- The bottom of the pits is thoroughly loosened.
- Support stakes are installed in the middle of the recess.
- One bucket of anthropogenic soil in the form of humus and sand is added to the pits.
- To the top level of the soil, the depression is filled with dug soil, to which 85 grams must first be added. nitroammofoski.
- The contents of the pits are mixed well.
- The edge of a hole 6 cm high is formed from the remaining soil.
Having thus prepared a place for the constant growth of plants, it is left alone until the time when it is necessary to replant the lazy tomatoes.
Planting seeds
Next year, after organizing the planting site, the film is removed from the pre-prepared mini-greenhouse at the beginning of March. Next, the soil is dug up carefully and deeply enough. Then pour the soil well with a warm solution of saltpeter in proportions of 40 g. per 1 liter of water, it is again covered with film until the 15th–20th of March.
After the specified time has passed, they proceed to planting seeds. To do this, first, smooth depressions of 0.5 cm are made along the greenhouse with a maintained distance of 4–5 cm from each other. Seeds of one variety are sown in each furrow, and their names are marked. Then the seeds are covered with a 1 cm layer of loose rotted manure. Next, after watering the ground with warm water using the drip method, the greenhouse is closed and well insulated with 2 layers of covering material.
Important! When the first seedlings appear, it is recommended to thin them out from weak and diseased seedlings. Since only in this case strong tomatoes will gain more strength for further development.
Transplanting seedlings to a permanent place of growth
When spring frosts have passed and the seedlings reach a height of 30–40 cm, the seedlings are planted in open ground.
To do this, first along the sides of the prepared pits with an indentation of 7 cm.using a pointed stake, holes are made up to 50 cm deep. At the same time, making sure that 4–5 plants fit in one planting place. Then, carefully removing the tomatoes from the greenhouse, shake them off and cut off their roots. To ensure the seedlings can easily enter the holes, you will also need to remove all the lower leaves from each stem. When all the seedlings are planted in the prepared places, it is recommended to water them thoroughly with a strong pressure of warm water.
After the work has been carried out, it is recommended to mulch each circle of plants with rotted leaves or rotted sawdust. Then all the tomato bushes planted in one hole are tied to a peg with one ribbon or twine.
A distinctive feature of this method of growing tomatoes from other similar methods is that it is ideal for any lazy person. After planting in open ground, the plants do not require pinching of bushes and frequent fertilizing. Fertilizers applied during planting last for quite a long time, right up to fruit set. Also, those who have already tried this method claim that the plants do not need additional garter. The bushes themselves find a convenient location for growth, intertwining with each other.
