The reliability and good productivity shown by the Mobile tomato appealed to amateur gardeners and farmers. The variety was developed in Ukraine at the beginning of this century.
Description of the variety
This is not a hybrid variety and does not have any F1 hybrids of the same name. The growing season can range from 115 to 120 days. Tomato bushes have small compact bushes, growing up to 60 cm on average. The bushes have average foliage and are not considered standard.
Tomatoes have very good resistance to known diseases that affect more tomatoes. Suitable for cultivation both in open ground and in greenhouse conditions.Used for planting in Ukraine and Russia.
Fruit characteristics
The characteristics and description of the Mobile tomato variety can begin with the fact that these tomatoes have round-shaped fruits, flattened at the top and bottom. The weight of one can be from 90 to 120 grams. They have excellent taste. Characterized by good transportability. Mobile tomatoes can be transported over fairly long distances; the fruits have a long shelf life.
Tomatoes develop a bright red color during ripening. The inner part has increased density. Tomatoes have few seed nests and an average amount of dry matter.
Methods of use and yield
The variety is suitable for adding to fresh vegetable salads; they make excellent preserves, including sauces and ketchups. Refers to high-yielding. From grown bushes you can harvest 2.5 kg of tomatoes, and from 1 sq. meters - up to 15 kg.
Fruit ripening is gradual and requires frequent picking (once every 3 days). Only ripe tomatoes are picked from the brush. Fruiting lasts approximately 1.5 months.
Advantages of the variety and its disadvantages
One of the main positive features of the variety is its ability to resist diseases. Gardeners fell in love with it because of its high yield. Tomatoes have excellent taste and can be transported over long distances.
The fruits have universal uses. There is no need to grow several varieties on the plot at the same time: it is enough to plant only Mobile, and the summer-autumn table will be provided with tomatoes, and in winter you can delight your household with exquisite preserves.
There is no information about the disadvantages of Mobile tomatoes. Reviews from the person who planted them reflect only their positive qualities.
Varietal features
Mobile, like other representatives of tomatoes, is a heat-loving plant and favors light. Prefers light fertile soils. It is possible to grow tomatoes both by planting seedlings and by sowing seeds in the ground.
Seeds can be purchased at specialized retail outlets or collected independently from your own harvest - to do this, you should leave the largest fruits of the correct shape to ripen on the bush. Then the ripe vegetable is placed near the window so that the tomato softens. The next step is to cut the tomato and remove the seeds into a bowl of water. After some time, they are taken out and dried. Store until spring in a paper envelope.
Planting seeds for growing seedlings occurs around mid-March - early April.
Before planting, the seeds are treated with a light solution of potassium permanganate and then rinsed in running water to disinfect. The soil should be calcined in the oven or watered with a weak solution of manganese.
The seeds are placed in the furrows made to a depth of 2 cm. The soil must be thoroughly moistened. Then the container is covered with film and placed in a warm place where the temperature is +22 - 24 degrees.
After 2–3 true leaves appear on the plants, picking is carried out. The seedlings are carefully removed from the container and immediately transplanted into another container. Picked seedlings can be planted in separate pots made of peat or compressed cardboard - such containers can be placed in open ground without removing the plants being planted from them. This can speed up the survival time of seedlings in the soil. With such planting, the root system does not suffer from possible damage.
During the period of growing tomato seedlings, the soil in the container is fertilized twice.Fertilizing is done using mineral fertilizers. Approximately 7 days before planting seedlings in the soil, it is hardened. To do this, the plants are taken to a cooler place or, if the temperature allows, left for some time in the open air.
When the tomatoes reach 60 days of age, the seedlings are planted in open ground or a greenhouse. A handful of humus and wood ash are added to thoroughly watered holes.
The seedling is placed in the hole and covered with soil. Make sure that the main stem of the tomato is immersed in the soil 2–4 cm lower than when it was growing in a pot. This will strengthen the root system, which will provide intensive nutrition and, as a result, rapid growth and better fruiting.
Leave 30–40 cm between bushes in a row, and about 70 cm between rows. You can plant plants in a checkerboard pattern with a distance of 60 cm between bushes and rows. For 1 sq. m you can plant up to 6 tomato bushes of this variety.
Caring for planted tomatoes
Caring for a planted tomato is not difficult: it consists of timely watering, removing weeds, fertilizing and regular loosening of the soil (“dry watering”). It is recommended to tie the bushes to supports and regularly cut off the shoots. It is necessary to ensure that the tomatoes have one main stem.
Diseases and pests
As stated in the description, Mobile tomatoes successfully resist diseases. Insect control can be carried out using insecticides or using folk remedies.
Ivanna, Kherson: “This year I planted a Mobile tomato on the plot and was pleased with the result. No problems growing. The main thing is not to forget about watering and loosening the soil. The harvest was excellent. I recommend everyone to plant this tomato.”
