Description and features of the rose Niccolo Paganini
The bushes of the crop reach a height of 85 centimeters. Inflorescences form on strong shoots, from which a light musky aroma emanates. The petals are painted in the tones of a velvet red palette. 6-10 buds are formed in one inflorescence. Niccolo Paganini belongs to the group of roses called floribunda. This means that flowering is abundant and long lasting. The variety has good winter hardiness.
Advantages and disadvantages
The positive qualities include the following characteristics of a rose:
- abundant and long flowering;
- good immunity;
- spectacular appearance of inflorescences;
- light nutmeg aroma;
- good winter hardiness.
The disadvantages include the presence of large and small thorns on the shoots.
Growing rules
The beauty and health of the plant depends on correctly performed agrotechnical measures.
In what form is planting carried out?
Rose bushes are planted in open ground at the age of 1-2 years. They are purchased at a plant nursery, garden center, or grown independently from cuttings.
What time does boarding take place?
The crop is planted in spring or autumn. The advantage of the latter option is that the gardener sees the flowers formed on the bush during the summer. At the same time, he can be sure that he is purchasing the Niccolo Paganini variety.
Note! When planted in spring, the plants have time to take root well.
Selecting a location
Rose prefers to grow in a well-lit place. On hot afternoons, plants should be in partial shade.Otherwise, the edges of the petals may get burned.
To plant bushes, select a place where groundwater lies deep. Excess moisture can cause the root system to become susceptible to fungal diseases. For the same reason, roses cannot be planted in lowlands.
How to prepare the soil and flower for planting
The area is cleared of plant debris and dug up. 2 weeks before planting, dig a hole. The root system is placed in a solution of potassium permanganate for 30-40 minutes. Disinfection will occur, during which pathogenic microorganisms will die. Strong branches are shortened to a well-developed bud, weak branches are cut into a ring. Roots that are too long are trimmed.
Boarding procedure
A rose is planted in a permanent place as follows:
- dig a hole with a depth and diameter of 60 centimeters;
- a drainage layer of expanded clay or small stones is laid on the bottom;
- then apply a 10-centimeter layer of fertilizer, for example, rotted manure or compost;
- they fill in a fertile substrate of turf and leaf soil, peat, sand;
- A seedling is placed in the middle of the hole, covered with earth, and watered abundantly.
To preserve moisture in the soil, the space around the bush is covered with mulching material made from straw, sawdust, and peat.
Important! The root collar of seedlings is buried no more than 4 centimeters.
How to properly care for a rose
Caring for the crop consists of timely watering, fertilizing, pruning shoots and faded buds. To prevent the appearance of diseases and pests, the rose is treated with special preparations before or after flowering.
Watering rules and humidity
Water the rose as needed. The soil should not be wetted frequently or with small portions of water. It is better to water rarely, but abundantly. Use warm, settled water. Top irrigation of bushes is undesirable.Due to high humidity, there is a high probability of fungal diseases affecting the rose.
Top dressing
In spring, nitrogen is added to the soil. It promotes rapid growth of shoots and root system. In summer, potassium-phosphorus substances are used. They help the bushes form buds and bloom effectively. Fertilizer is applied to moist soil.
Pruning and replanting
The first pruning of Niccolo Paganini roses is done in the spring, before the buds swell. Cut off frozen, dry, diseased branches. In summer, inflorescences that begin to dry out are removed. At the same time, the shoots are slightly shortened. In autumn, diseased branches are cut off. At the same time, if necessary, the bushes are transplanted.
Preparing for winter
In mid-autumn, moisture-recharging irrigation is carried out. The root circle is sprinkled with earth, then covered with spruce paws. If severe frosts are expected, the bushes should be wrapped in non-woven material.
Rose blossom
Buds begin to form towards the end of spring. After the first wave of flowering there is a short period of rest. Having rested a little, the rose again grows velvety inflorescences.
Additional Information. To produce 1 kilogram of rose oil, 3 tons of rose petals are used.
Period of activity and rest
The rose begins to actively develop in early spring. It requires care throughout the season. Since mid-autumn, the rose has been dormant.
Care during and after flowering
Flowering plants require increased care. You need to make sure that the soil is not too dry. For abundant growth of inflorescences, fertilizing is used. The soil around the bushes is carefully loosened and mulched. Faded buds are cut off.
What to do if it doesn’t bloom, possible reasons
In the year of planting, the rose may not bloom because it is still very young.If the bushes are planted in the shade, it will be difficult for them to form buds. Plant plants in a well-lit area. The presence of diseases and pests also prevents the rose from blooming. For prevention, the bushes are sprayed several times with special preparations. An old plant does not have the strength to form a sufficient number of inflorescences. To renew it, radical pruning of the shoots is carried out.
Methods of controlling diseases and pests
The Niccolo Paganini rose can be attacked by aphids. Insects suck cell sap from young shoots, weakening the plant. You can get rid of them by spraying with an insecticide solution. If the weather is too dry, there is a risk of spider mites. It entangles bushes in a web, as a result of which their development slows down. It can be washed off under water pressure. The appearance of fungal diseases is promoted by wet weather and excessive watering of bushes. Fungicides are used for prevention and treatment.
Important! Chemicals are used before or after plants flower.
Reproduction methods
Roses are propagated on site using cuttings and budding. Reproduction by layering is difficult due to the low shoots of Niccolo Paganini. Gardeners usually do not propagate the crop by seeds. This is a labor-intensive procedure. In addition, all parental characteristics of the variety may not be transmitted.
Application in landscape design
Niccolo Paganini is planted alone or in a group with other roses. It can be used to form borders and hedges. A compact bush will look beautiful in an alpine hill, flower bed, or mixborder. The culture combines with many decorative foliage and beautifully flowering plants.
