It’s not for nothing that the rose is called the queen. The flower, symbolizing love and innocence, is grown in courtyards and dachas, on the streets and in parks, and cultivated in botanical gardens. Breeders have developed many varieties that differ in shape, flower size, and petal color. The climbing rose Indigoletta is suitable for creating hedges, decorating arches, and decorating buildings.

History of appearance
The Azubis variety with an unusual shade of flowers, which landscape designers enjoy using, was developed by Dutch breeder Van de Laak in 1981. Indigoletta immediately attracted the attention of flower growers because of its purple buds, which are extremely rare to find on roses.
The plant feels normal in partial shade, where it acquires a rich color, and is rarely affected by diseases. The branches of the rose, which is called the Blue Queen, are arranged in a fan, which promotes abundant flowering both at the top and at the bottom of the plant.
Description and characteristics of the Indigoletta rose
The height of the Rose Indigolett bush reaches 3 m. The corolla of the blossoming flower, covering the stamens and pistils, has a lilac-blue or pink color. The glass-shaped bud is striking in its bright purple hue. The diameter of the corolla, consisting of 3 dozen double petals, is at least 8 cm.
Dense bushes of the Indigoletta variety have powerful roots, tough vines grow up to 1.5 m in width. The branches are covered with glossy leaves.
The rose blooms profusely at the beginning and end of summer and emits a delicate aroma. Climbing bushes require insulation for the winter, but it is not easy to cover erect shoots.
Main advantages and disadvantages
The beauty of the Indigoletta rose was appreciated not only by landscape designers of European countries, but also by flower growers of the Lower Volga region, Rostov and Kaliningrad regions, Moldova and Ukraine.
The advantages of the variety include:
- original coloring of buds and petals;
- good frost resistance;
- highly decorative;
- abundant flowering;
- bright aroma.
The Dutch rose under cover does not freeze at -30 ° C, but the shoots are difficult to bend. Excessive moisture provokes the development of fungal diseases in the plant.Indigoletta loves light, but in direct sunlight the petals lose their bright color.
Features of cultivation
Although the rose is an unpretentious crop, in order for the plant to please with its decorative appearance and lush, long-lasting flowering, you need to choose a suitable place and properly care for it.
When and where to plant?
To prevent infection, it is not recommended to place Indigoletta in an area where roses used to grow. When used to create an arch, the bushes are planted on the side illuminated by the sun. The plant is comfortable in partial shade, where the flowers retain their rich color.
When placing Indigoletta along a gazebo or building, the holes are made at a distance of a meter, which prevents the accumulation of moisture.
The rose does not tolerate stagnation of water, does not tolerate drafts and cold winds, and grows well in loose soil.
At climbing rose planted in spring In summer it sprouts shoots and boasts thick foliage. When placed in the soil at the beginning of autumn, the bushes become stronger and tolerate winter well.
Selection of planting material
Roses that are 1 or 2 years old with intact roots and two or three stems that have already become lignified quickly take root. Seedlings must be pruned and free of leaves and berries. It is better to buy Indigoletta bushes that are sold in a container, although they are more expensive than roses with bare root collars. If the seedlings have wrinkled bark, they need to be kept in water for several hours. When transported to the site, the roots of the plant should not dry out.
Planting scheme
Up to 7 buds are left on the rose bush, the shoots are shortened to 30 cm, covering the cut points. The hole is dug to a depth of half a meter and filled with the mixture:
- sand;
- compost;
- humus;
- land.
The Indigoletta seedling is placed in a hole so that the root collar is not covered with soil. An interval of 85–90 cm is left between the bushes, and 1.5–2 m between rows.
In order for the rose to wrap around the fence beautifully, when planting, they retreat about one and a half meters from it.
Recommendations for caring for the variety
Indigoletta pleases with repeated flowering, bright colors, only when it is taken care of. Culture needs:
- in regular irrigation;
- feeding;
- in loosening the earth;
- pruning branches.
To retain moisture, the soil under the plant is covered with sawdust, straw or peat. Climbing rose shoots are secured to a support or trellis with strong twine. More flowers appear on shoots directed horizontally.
Watering
Young bushes need to be irrigated every week, but moisture stagnation should not be allowed, as this can lead to root rot. If the plant is planted on the sunny side, it is recommended to spray the stems and leaves with warm water twice a day. For the first month, pour a bucket of liquid under the rose; in hot weather, two buckets each. It is not recommended to irrigate a flowering plant with a hose.
Fertilizing and soil quality
2–3 months before planting the flower, the area is carefully dug up, roots and weeds are selected, and the acidic soil is limed. The following is added to the ground:
- organics;
- superphosphate;
- soil bacteria.
Fertilize the rose with mullein or mineral mixtures that contain potassium and phosphorus. Before flowering, foliar feeding is performed. You need to be careful when using complexes containing nitrogen. With an excess of this component, leaves and stems grow, but few buds are formed.
Pruning and replanting
In spring and autumn, old, dry and diseased branches are removed, and lashes that are longer than the support are shortened.No more than three annual growths and up to 7 shoots with flowers are left on the rose.
Indigoletta is replanted in the spring before the leaves begin to bloom. By this time the earth should warm up to 7 °C. To form strong roots, it is recommended to tear off the buds formed on the rose.
It is better to replant bushes in the fall, a month and a half before the arrival of frost. Before the procedure, the plant is watered abundantly, the shoots are tied up and dug in a circle to a depth of 0.2 m. When loosened, the rose is easily removed from the soil.
The roots need to be shortened and dried or rotten areas removed. The cut areas should be sprinkled with ash or treated with brilliant green. The bush is planted in the prepared hole along with a lump of earth, adding soil, watering and compacting the soil several times.
Features of wintering a flower
If the air temperature in the coldest month of the year does not fall below -15 ° C, the rose can simply be buried high in soil. In mid-latitudes, Indigoletta shoots are first covered with loops of rope, tilted towards the ground, and pinned with pegs. A week later, the branches are lowered even lower, shortening the string. Blocks of wood are placed under the base, pine needles or sawdust are poured on top, and covered with film.
Methods of controlling diseases and pests
Indigoletta suffers from powdery mildew, the leaves become covered with plaque, and the buds dry out. To prevent the rose from being affected by the disease, in the spring the bushes are sprayed with copper preparations, in the summer - with a solution prepared from soap and caustic soda.
Infected shoots are cut out along with the leaves and burned. The plant is treated with Gamair, Planriz or Fitosporin.
In damp, warm weather, Indigoletta is affected by black spot. Timely removal of leaves from the area and compliance with watering rules helps prevent the development of the disease.To treat plants, Bordeaux mixture is sprayed and biological fungicides such as Ridomil Gold and Topaz are used.
Rose propagation
The Indigoletta variety can be propagated on site using shoots, or even better, cuttings with 3 nodes. An incision is made at an angle of 45° from the lower bud, and the leaves are torn off. The shoots are planted in a container filled with a mixture of sand and earth and covered with glass or film.
With regular watering, the cuttings sprout roots.
Use in garden design
Climbing roses growing close together form a hedge. Flowering shoots of the Indigoletta variety decorate semicircular metal arches installed to frame a plot or flower bed. Roses are planted near lawns, paths, and placed next to stones.
