Weed control is one of the priorities in the work of farmers. This requires drugs with high selective and weed-inhibiting properties. The herbicide Butizan 400 is produced by the famous German chemical concern BASF and characterizes it as an effective drug for controlling a huge number of weeds. It is necessary to know the regulations for using the pesticide and follow safety rules during processing.

Composition, release form and purpose of the drug “Butizan 400”
Herbicide "Butizan 400" is intended for the destruction of weeds in cabbage, rapeseed, mustard, and rutabaga crops. Refers to systemic pesticides with selective action.
Butizan 400 is based on metazachlor, which can destroy cereals and dicotyledonous weeds.
Its concentration in the drug is 400 grams per 1 liter of substance.
The herbicide is available in the form of a concentrated suspension and packaged in 5-liter plastic canisters.
Currently, BASF produces a modification of the herbicide called “Butizan Star", a more effective remedy, since the active ingredient, in addition to metazachlor, is also quinmerac.
How does weed killer work?
Metazachlor is able to penetrate weeds through roots and germinal stems (hypoctyl) and block their further growth. The drug most often enters cereal weeds through the first leaf after the cotyledon. The sprout curls and dies. Dicotyledonous weeds receive a portion of pesticides through the cotyledons, which leads to their destruction. The seedling stops developing and dries up while still underground. Even if the weeds have sprouted, they die within a week.
If the herbicide “Butizan 400” is used on weed seedlings, then at first they stop growing, then lighten and gradually dry out.
Application benefits
The advantages of the herbicide “Butizan 400” include:
- Possibility of use throughout the season;
- destruction of the main part of weeds (90%);
- improving the quality of the crop;
- no need to process row spacing.
Consumption rate
According to the regulations for use, the herbicide “Butizan 400” is used once per season. The solution consumption rate is 200-300 liters per 1 hectare.
The consumption rate of the drug for different crops is:
- white cabbage - treatment before planting or a week after planting seedlings, norm - 1.75-2.5 liters per hectare;
- spring and winter rapeseed - spraying before emergence, 1.75-2.5 liters per hectare.
How to properly prepare and use the working solution
To prepare the solution, you need to fill the sprayer tank one third with water. After this, measure out the required amount of herbicide and add it to the tank while the mixer is running. Add water to the full volume of the sprayer and begin processing the crops.
According to the instructions for use, the optimal air temperature for work is from +10 ⁰С to + 20 ⁰С.
To increase the effectiveness of the drug, it is necessary to prepare the ground:
- remove lumps with a diameter of more than 5 cm;
- spraying is carried out on freshly treated soil or before watering;
- interrow processing is carried out after three weeks;
- on light soils, the herbicide consumption corresponds to the instructions; on heavy clay soils, it is increased to 2 liters per hectare; on peat bogs, its use is not recommended due to high absorption.
Safety precautions when using herbicide
When working with Butizan 400, a number of rules are observed:
- Patients with contraindications, pregnant and lactating women, and persons under 18 years of age are not allowed to work;
- use protective clothing, shoes, goggles, and a respirator;
- do not treat areas that do not need it;
- do not exceed the herbicide consumption rate;
- do not eat, smoke or drink until work is completed;
- do not spray in the sanitary zone of water bodies and near sources of drinking water;
- notify residents and owners of apiaries about the time of processing, which is carried out in the morning or evening.
Degree of toxicity of the product
Herbicide "Butizan 400" is classified as a third class of danger to humans and bees. The drug is especially dangerous when used near ponds with fish.
Compatibility with other substances and storage conditions
Herbicide "Butizan 400" can be used in tank mixtures with similar preparations. In this case, you should study the instructions to use water of the recommended acidity. Compatibility is checked using test mixing. If there are no flakes, sediment or separation, the mixture is used for processing.
The drug is stored in a special warehouse, away from food and animal feed. The chemical must be in its original, undamaged packaging. Optimal storage conditions are a dark place with an air temperature above zero. The room should be well ventilated. Under these conditions, the shelf life is two years from the date of production.
