Composition, release form and purpose of the drug "Callisto"
The basis of the drug is mesotrione.This is a synthetic analogue of a natural herbicide produced by ornamental shrubs Callistemon citrunus. The toxic substances released by this plant species inhibit the development and growth of crops growing nearby.
The drug is produced in liquid form - CS (suspension concentrate). Packaged in 5 liter containers. The concentration of mesotrione in the herbicide is 480 g/l. Spectrum of action "Callisto":
- perennial and annual dicotyledonous weeds growing in a corn field;
- dicotyledonous annual weeds growing in a poppy field.
Mechanism of action of the herbicide
Treatment with a selective, systemic, post-emergence herbicide does not harm corn. It can be used to spray the crop at the 8th leaf stage. Thanks to the mild effect of the drug on young plants, weed control work is carried out in a timely manner. The product belongs to the triketone class.
The active substance that forms the basis of Callisto has a systemic effect on weeds. Within 24 hours, 80% of the solution penetrates into plant tissue. Results are visible after 1-2 days, signs of herbicide action:
- tissues become discolored at growth points;
- the entire above-ground part becomes light;
- tissues die.
Weeds die completely within 1-2 weeks.
Positive and negative sides
The herbal preparation "Callisto" has a number of advantages. It is used in tank mixtures. It kills weeds that other herbicides have no effect on. Treatments are carried out at different stages of development of corn and weeds. Using "Callisto" eliminates the re-emergence of weeds:
- bindweed;
- sow thistle;
- cable car;
- ambrosia;
- other cereals, dicotyledonous weeds.
In conditions of heavy weediness, “Callisto” cannot cope with all types of weeds. It is used in combination with other means.It works most effectively with the drug "Milagro". Their mixture destroys 90-95% of weeds in a corn field.
Working fluid consumption rates
"Callisto" has a prolonged effect. During the season, corn is treated with Callisto once. The waiting period at a suspension consumption rate of 0.15-0.25 l/ha is 2 calendar months. The time of protective effect depends on factors:
- weed growth phases;
- weather, rain immediately after treatment reduces the effect of using the herbicide, precipitation does not affect the result if more than an hour has passed since spraying;
- type of weed;
- concentration and consumption of the working mixture.
Preparation of working solution
The effectiveness of the liquid mixture is increased by adding the drug “Corvette Zh” - 0.5 liters of adjuvant are consumed per volume of 100 liters.
“Corvette” improves the adhesion, sprayability, and absorption of the herbicide solution.
Algorithm for preparing the Callisto solution:
- fill the tank ½ full with water;
- start the mixer;
- pour in the dose of the drug;
- add water.
Until the components dissolve, the mixture is stirred. The prepared solution is used immediately after mixing.
Instructions for use of the prepared solution
Corn is processed in the morning, when there is no dew or rain. With wind force up to 3 m/sec. The sprayer is inspected the day before. It consists of several operations. Assessing the cleanliness of the tank and the serviceability of the sprayers. Setting up uniform liquid supply. The volume must correspond to the calculated flow rate.
The maximum result when destroying weeds is achieved at the stage of weed development:
- in annuals - 2-3rd leaf;
- in perennials - a rosette of 5-8 cm.
In order for the mesotrione substance to reach the growth points faster, harmful vegetation is generously moistened with the working fluid.
Precautionary measures
There is no harm to health when using the herbicide if the recommended safety precautions are followed. The product is classified as hazard class 3 for humans and hazard class 3 for bees.
After 3 days, mechanized work can be planned on the herbicide-treated field.
Restrictions that must be observed during use:
- treat areas located in fishery zones;
- It is prohibited to use in dachas and vegetable gardens;
- cannot be sprayed by aircraft.
Phytotoxicity of the drug
There is no risk of phytotoxicity if the herbicide is sprayed in accordance with the standards specified in the instructions.
Is it compatible with other pesticides?
"Callisto" is used in tank mixtures. This allows you to expand the spectrum of action of the herbicide. Before preparing the working solution, a compatibility test of all components is carried out. Before use, study all the instructions that come with the companion drug. Their application periods must coincide.
"Milagro" (0.75-1 l/ha) is mixed with "Callisto" (0.15-0.2 l/ha) to destroy cereals. Against perennials that reproduce by root suckers, the herbicide is mixed with the drug “Banvel”:
- consumption of the first product is 0.15-0.2 l/ha;
- consumption of the second product is 0.1-0.15 l/ha.
Insecticides containing organophosphorus compounds and thiocarbonates are not used on corn before and after spraying the crop with the herbicide “Callisto”. The pause between treatments is 7 days.
Terms and conditions of storage
The herbicide is sold in cans. It is effective for 3 years. The period is counted from the date of issue if the original packaging is not opened.Indoor conditions:
- dry air;
- lower temperature limit -5 °C;
- upper temperature limit +35 °C.
Analogs
Syngenta produces the herbicide Sumaro. This is an analogue of Callisto in terms of the active substance. The mesotrione suspension contains 480 g/l. Apply a remedy against broadleaf weeds. The drug works in the temperature range of 8-25 °C. Corn is sprayed with Sumaro solution in the 3-8 leaf phase.
"Mezokron" is the second analogue of "Callisto" in terms of active substance. It contains a mesotrione concentration of 480 g/l. The drug is used to treat corn against dicotyledonous and cereal weeds. Like “Callisto”, “Mesocorn” has a soil effect and inhibits the development of the 2nd wave of weeds.
