Pigeons are susceptible to various diseases. Many of them are infectious in nature. Cleanliness in the dovecote is therefore very important for the health of the pets. This is especially felt if pigeons are kept in enclosures and not allowed to go for walks. “Rodotium” successfully cures common avian diseases; instructions for using the drug for pigeons will help their owners who find themselves alone with a single or mass disease of birds.
Composition and release form of "Rodotium"
The drug is produced in Bulgaria by BIOVET, AD in the form of white (yellowish tint is possible) granules, packaged in polymer bottles of 100 g and jars of 1 kg. The active ingredient tiamulin is contained in Rodotium in 45% concentration.
When is it used?
The veterinary drug is used in the treatment of pigeons for dysentery, respiratory diseases, and mycoplasma infections. Mycoplasma is a microorganism without a cell membrane. It is detected by laboratory analysis of smears from the mucous membranes. Various types of mycoplasmas affect the respiratory, genitourinary and circulatory systems of animals, birds and humans. “Rodotium” interferes with protein synthesis in the microbial cell, leading to its death.
Mycoplasmosis of the respiratory tract is especially dangerous, since pathogenic cells can invade all organs that supply the body with oxygen. "Rodotium" is given to pigeons suffering from mycoplasma infections. The rest of the poultry on the farm are given the drug to prevent mass infection.
Dosage and instructions for use of the drug for pigeons
"Rodotium" is administered to birds orally by dissolving the granules in water.
Recommended consumption rates of the drug are shown in the table.
Disease | Dosage, g per 1 kg of body weight |
Dysentery | 0,08 |
Pneumonia | 0,095 |
Microplasma infections | 0,11 |
It is acceptable to use “Rodotium” for other animals and birds if laboratory tests reveal pathogens that are not immune to tiamulin. For successful treatment, it is recommended to adhere to the following simple rules:
- In an effort to give the animals the required dose, they dissolve the drug in the amount of water that a group of birds drinks in a day.
- The livestock should not have access to clean water or other liquids.
- A fresh portion of the solution is prepared every day.
- A large volume of drink is prepared in 2 stages. First, the drug is diluted in a third of the calculated amount of water. After stirring until the granules are completely dissolved, add the remaining liquid.
Pigeons consume 30-60 ml of water per day. Most of all, egg-laying females and nursing mothers need it. In hot weather, thirst increases almost 2 times.
Disease detection
For successful housekeeping, the owner must be guided by signs that help to quickly isolate a sick bird and quickly provide assistance to it.
Symptoms of dysentery:
- decreased appetite;
- unusual lethargy;
- brown excrement speckled with blood;
- diarrhea (may be interrupted by short-term constipation);
- slight increase in body temperature.
The most dangerous period for the health of pigeons is 1-3 months. At this time, their immunity weakly resists infections. The chick, separated from its mother's milk, has not yet adapted to independent life.
Signs of pneumonia:
- decreased appetite;
- depressed state;
- inflammation of the eyes and suppuration along the eyelids;
- 1-1.5 weeks after the first symptoms, wheezing, heavy breathing through an open beak.
After starting treatment, pigeons usually recover within 7-14 days. Until complete recovery, patients should not be allowed to get into stressful situations. Mycoplasmosis manifests itself in:
- pain in the joints of the limbs, their swelling;
- lameness;
- reluctance to eat;
- weak reaction to the environment;
- redness around the eyes;
- coughing and sneezing, mucus from the nose;
- rapid breathing.
What are the side effects?
No negative reactions to the use of Rodotium were observed. Individual intolerance to tiamulin is very rare. Such birds are examined for kidney and liver diseases. If pathologies are detected, these individuals are rejected.
Possible contraindications
If pigeons take any medications, it is necessary to inform the veterinarian about this in order to prevent complications and adverse reactions (diarrhea, paralysis, kidney failure).
Poultry is slaughtered for meat 3 days after the end of treatment.
Storage periods and rules
The therapeutic effect of “Rodotium” remains for two years. After opening, the drug is not poured anywhere, but is left in its original packaging in a dry, dark room at a temperature from 0 ° C to 25 ° C. It is required to prevent children from having access to the product. Storing Rodotium near food or feed is unacceptable. Medicine containers are not used for household purposes.
Analogs
Other pharmaceutical companies also produce drugs similar to Rodotium. They all use tiamulin as the active ingredient.
Name | Manufacturer | Type of packaging | Shelf life in original packaging after first opening |
"Tialong" 45% | NITA-FARM, Russia | Glass bottles with a capacity of 1 kg | 4 months |
"Tiam-45" | "BioTestLab", Ukraine | Powder | 1 month |
"Tiamulin" 45% VK | Ultravet, Russia | 100 gram foil packet, powder | 1.5 months |
Since all medications have the same concentration of the active substance, their dosages coincide with the consumption rates of Rodotium.
