Wax moth is called a dangerous pest of beekeeping farms. Its caterpillars consume honey, wax frames and bee bread. They also cause damage to the hive and bee brood. If the infection is severe, there is a risk of death of the bee colony. However, not everyone knows that this pest has a number of beneficial properties. The fact is that parasitic larvae synthesize cerrase. This enzyme helps treat various pathologies.
What it is?
The bee moth or wax moth is an insect dangerous to bees, which often enters the hive and successfully lives there, provoking the destruction of bee colonies. When they detect strangers in their house, the bees begin to intensively fight them. Most often, they expel pests from the hive, seal them away, or eat the larvae. However, bees cannot do this all the time.
Within a day, moth butterflies begin to lay eggs, which leads to a rapid increase in their number. Moreover, during its development, one larva is capable of destroying up to 600 honeycombs, which corresponds in weight to 2 kilograms of wax. If a whole generation of larvae is present in the hive, they can destroy 20 kilograms of honeycomb. At the same time, pests eat honey, bee bread, and bee larvae. Therefore, a colony of parasites can completely destroy a bee colony.
However, not all beekeepers know that this dangerous pest has a beneficial effect on the condition of the human body. The fact is that the extract of wax moth larvae has unique healing characteristics. As they eat the waste products of bees, insects produce valuable enzymes. They improve human health.
