Description and cultivation of clematis variety Warsaw Nike, pruning group

Clematis variety Warsaw Nike is one of the most interesting varieties, an achievement of Polish gardeners. The crop is simple to grow, suitable for inexperienced summer residents or experienced gardeners. To successfully breed a flower, you need to become familiar with agrotechnical nuances.

Description and features

Clematis warszawska nike was bred by a Catholic monk from Poland S. Franczak. In one warm night, the length of the vine grows by 10 cm.In 1 season, the flower forms 1-5 shoots. The inflorescences are velvety, large in size, the same color as ripe cherry, 17 cm in diameter.

The flowers look charming due to the large stamens of a contrasting light tone. The buds do not fade in the sun for a long time. The leaves are wrinkled, green, ovoid in shape. During the summer, clematis blooms 2 times. The process begins in June and lasts until late autumn. The plant can withstand frosts down to -35.

Landing

Clematis should be planted in the garden in spring or autumn, but the air temperature should not drop below +10 degrees. First, the seedlings are inspected for damage and signs of beetle attacks. You can place them in an Epin or Matador solution that stimulates the development of rhizomes for 2 hours, then dry them. It is important to choose the right place, prepare the soil, and adhere to the planting algorithm.

Location requirements

It is recommended to plant clematis on the southern sides of fences or buildings, in large tubs. You can also place it on constructed cones or old trees. The place should be sunny and windless, but partial shade will also work.

Soil selection and preparation

The soil should be fertile, light, slightly alkaline. Add 1 bucket of peat or sand, 2-3 buckets of compost, 150 g of superphosphate and 400 g of dolomite flour to poor soil. The components are thoroughly mixed. It is advisable to fertilize the soil 1.5-2 months before planting.

Deadlines

In regions with a cool climate, planting is carried out in late April or early May. The spring seedling must have more than 1 stem. In the South, you can plant the vine in September, before frost.

Planting scheme

For clematis, prepare a hole 60*60 cm, pour a drainage layer on the bottom. The hole is filled with soil with the addition of compost or rotted manure, 2 tbsp. ash. The nutritional compositions are thoroughly mixed. A mound is made at the bottom on which the seedling is placed. It is buried 10 cm below the soil level. When placing clematis in a hole, straighten its rhizome and distribute it over the soil. Throughout the summer, soil is poured into the hole. If other crops are planned to be planted next to the flower, maintain a distance of 70 cm between them.

Care

Caring for clematis is not difficult; it only requires timely watering, fertilizing, loosening, pruning, and support. The liana is also sprayed with insecticides and fungicides against harmful bugs and diseases.

Watering

Irrigate clematis once a week with settled water. In hot weather, watering is increased up to 2-3 times every 7 days. Young seedlings require 20 liters of water at a time, adults - 40 liters. Liquid should not be allowed to fall on the leaves, as this will cause the spread of fungi. It is optimal to organize underground irrigation. Irrigate at the root, 30 cm from the center.

Top dressing

Fertilize should be done throughout the growing season. When the vine was covered with rotted manure for the winter, this feeding would be enough for the entire growth period. In other situations, the plant is fed with universal compounds like “Kemira”, also with ammonium nitrate, phosphorus-potassium substances.

Loosening and mulching

Thanks to weeding, the earth is saturated with oxygen, weeds are removed, and the rhizome develops better. The first loosening is carried out in March on moist soil. Afterwards, it is covered with mulch from fallen leaves, humus, compost, and wood chips. Manipulation maintains moisture and looseness of the soil. Apply a layer without touching the branches, so as not to cause fungal infections.Nitrogen is added to the soil at the same time.

Trimming group

Clematis Warsaw Nike belongs to pruning group 2-3. The procedure is carried out 2 times, after the first pollen, last year’s shoots are cut off in the summer. The stems are cut out a second time, leaving them 1.5 meters long after complete wilting. Afterwards, cover the clematis for the winter. You can also resort to the 3rd group of pruning. In the fall, in November, all shoots are cut off; they should remain 15-20 cm long. With both groups of pruning, the plant blooms with the same intensity. It is pragmatic to trim it according to the rules of the 3rd group.

Support

Clematis Warsaw Nike needs a metal or wooden support with a stretched mesh of iron and nylon branches. You can purchase ready-made trellises in the store or build them yourself.

Protection from diseases and pests

Clematis are the most susceptible to fungal infections. Their wilting is provoked by two species - the genus Fusarium and Phomopsis. Damage occurs to leaves, stems and shoots. Damaged parts must be removed, burned, and treated with fungicides. If the bush is heavily infected, it is dug up and burned.

  1. Sometimes clematis is subject to gray rot, which appears as brown spots on shoots and foliage. The disease develops during rainy times. Eliminate rot by spraying and watering with Fundazol.
  2. Powdery mildew appears as a whitish coating on leaves and shoots. To remove it, use a solution of 30 g of copper sulfate, 300 g of soap, dissolved in 10 liters of water.
  3. Rust affects shoots with leaves. They are removed, and the remaining parts of the plant are sprayed with 2% Bordeaux mixture.
  4. Viral pathologies rarely develop in clematis, they cannot be treated, and the plant is burned.Common viral diseases include yellow leaf mosaic.
  5. Rarely leaves are affected by root-knot or leaf nematodes. The plant withers and becomes distorted. Thickenings form on the roots. Harmful beetles are introduced from weeds or soil.

To prevent diseases and insect attacks, dill, parsley, coriander, calendula, and marigolds are planted next to clematis.

Reproduction

Clematis are preferably propagated vegetatively, using different parts. There are also several breeding methods.

  1. Green cuttings. Shoots are cut from adult clematis at the stage of bud formation. Take material from the middle of the plant, with 1 node. You can cut off no more than 1/3 of the part. The petioles are treated in growth-stimulating solutions and germinated in containers with peat or sand.
  2. By layering. In autumn, one of the shoots is pressed to the ground and sprinkled with it. When individual branches sprout, they are separated and grown.
  3. Dividing the bush. Take clematis 5-6 years old. They should be completely dug up and the rhizome divided. This method of reproduction is the most favorable.

Clematis is almost never propagated by seeds; there is a high risk of getting a different plant.

Use in landscape design

Clematis is planted along fences, arches, and used to decorate garages and gazebos. You can plant perennial grasses and dwarf trees nearby. The plant harmonizes with flowers of light shades.
