History of grape breeding
The hybrid grape variety Pamyati Negrul was bred by Moldovan breeders, employees of the NPO Vierul. The ancestors are the varieties Dantier de Saint-Vallier and Corna Negra. The task was to create a tasty hybrid that was resistant to disease, frost and retained commercial quality during transportation.
The variety was named in memory of the famous Soviet geneticist and grape breeder A.M. Negrulé. Registration took place in 2015 as a Moldovan grape variety.
Advantages and disadvantages of Negrul Memory
The grapes are unpretentious and have a long list of advantages:
- after planting, the seedlings take root well;
- the variety tolerates drought and frost well;
- grapes retain commercial quality during transportation and can be stored for a long time;
- resistant to most diseases;
- large bunches and berries with excellent taste and sugar content;
- excellent pollination;
- not prone to peas.
There are significantly fewer disadvantages, but you should remember them when choosing the Memory Negrul variety for planting on your own plot:
- in many regions it is necessary to protect plantings from frost;
- the number of bunches on the bushes should be regulated to ensure a consistently high yield;
- plantings should be protected with a net from birds - they especially liked the juicy berries;
- With prolonged high humidity, the berries are prone to cracking.
The bushes grow well and, with proper care, produce a high yield that stores well. That is why the variety Memory Negrul fell in love with gardeners in a short time.
Description and brief characteristics of the variety
These grapes belong to table varieties.
External data of the bush and shoots
The bushes are powerful, with developed roots, the variety is resistant to frost and drought, and has excellent resistance to fungal diseases. Young shoots need to be tied to supports in a timely manner - they have increased fragility.
Ripening period
The brushes ripen 145-155 days after the buds open. The grape harvest occurs in the first half of September. The clusters are perfectly preserved on the bushes. The variety produces high yields. If stored properly, brushes can last in the basement for up to 4 months.
Bunch size and harvest quantity
Large clusters with dark elongated berries are very decorative. The weight of the bunch is 600-700 grams. The berries in the cluster are large - 7-10 grams, with a dense pruin coating that protects them from spoilage. The brushes are large, conical, with moderate density. With good care, about 50 kilograms of grapes are obtained from an adult bush.
Taste qualities of berries
The skin of the berries is dense, with a tart taste, the berries are large, juicy, tasty, containing 2-3 seeds. The grapes are great for compotes, wine, and fresh consumption.
In what areas is it recommended to plant?
Memory Negrul grows well in the southern regions and in the Middle Zone. Thanks to warming, it has become possible to grow grapes in the southern Ural region. This variety tolerates frosts down to -25 ° C, but it is not covered only in very warm climates.
Landing rules
Proper planting of the vine and caring for the grapes are the conditions for a good harvest. Grapes grow in one place for many years, which is why you should carefully choose a place for planting. Proper care allows you to get the first harvest in the second year of cultivation.
Selection of seedlings
Choose strong seedlings with developed roots.A healthy root cut should be white. Be sure to apply light pressure on the eyes - in a high-quality seedling they should not be dry or fall off. If the grapes are planned to be planted in the spring, then the planting material is stored in a cool basement. The roots of the seedlings are placed in damp sand.
Important: the sand should not be too wet, this will lead to rotting of the roots.
Bushes are planted when the air warms up to +15 °C.
Hole depth and width
The hole for grapes is prepared in advance; in the fall, a hole 80-100 centimeters deep is dug. Its size is 80x80 centimeters. For planting, choose sunny, draft-free, high areas.
Planting grapes in lowlands will lead to rotting of the roots and death of the vine. A drainage layer is required in the pit; in addition, manure or humus is added.
Seating chart
Grape bushes are planted at a distance of 1.5-2 meters from each other, and with a distance between rows of plantings of 3 meters. If grapes are planted in the garden in one strip, the distance between seedlings is 1.5 meters.
Soil requirements
When choosing soil, you should pay attention to the location of groundwater - grapes do not tolerate waterlogging. Clay soils are not suitable for this variety; it is not planted on saline soils.
It would be preferable to plant on chernozem or loamy soils, loose, with good air permeability.
Care
The Memory Negrul variety is easy to care for and is suitable for planting even for novice gardeners.
Watering
In spring and autumn, moisture-recharging irrigation is carried out; it promotes enhanced root development.
The next watering is needed after the first leaves appear, then moisten as the soil dries, until the berries begin to fill. Watering is stopped 1-1.5 months before harvest.
Foliar and root fertilizer
In the fall, after harvesting, organic fertilizers (rotted manure, humus) are applied. Along with watering, mineral fertilizers are applied. Potassium and phosphate fertilizers are required.
For foliar feeding, complex preparations are used, for example, Plantofol or Brexil Mix. Foliar feeding is combined with spraying against diseases. Memory Negrul is resistant to diseases, but 2 sprayings are still carried out.
Mulching
Mulch the soil under the bushes to reduce the likelihood of weeds developing, retain moisture, and saturate the soil with organic matter. Mulching increases the yield of bushes and improves the taste of grapes. For mulching, straw, peat, sawdust, crushed reeds or hay are used.
Trimming
This variety needs pruning. Pruning is carried out to shape the bush and rejuvenate it. The bushes are pruned in the fall, before covering the grapes, and in the spring, after the covering material has been removed and the vine has been ventilated.
Covering for the winter
The variety is frost-resistant, but we should not forget that it is still a grape. Therefore, in most Russian regions it needs to be covered for the winter.
Cover with a special material, often using a film additionally sprinkled with earth. If during the planting of the vineyard special trenches were dug to cover the vines for the winter, then the problem of wintering the plants is solved very quickly.
Treatment against diseases and pests
Memory Negrul is resistant to odium, mildew, and phylloxera, but 1-3 treatments per season should be carried out. Treat with fungicides: Fastak, Kinmiks, Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate.
The first treatment is carried out after removing the cover, the next - after swelling of the buds and after flowering.During the filling period, the berries are not processed.
Birds love these grapes; a metal mesh is stretched over them to protect the harvest.
To protect against wasps, poisoned bait is hung in the garden, and wasp nests are found and burned.
Reproduction methods
It propagates well by cuttings; young shoots are cut 40-60 centimeters long. They are stuck into the soil, leaving only the top bud on the surface. This is done in the fall, and the cuttings take root before spring.
You can plant cuttings at home; Over the winter the planting will get stronger; in the spring it will be planted in a permanent place in the garden.
Pollination and fruiting period
Since the variety is a hybrid, the plant contains both male and female flowers. No additional steps are required for pollination.
For a stable harvest, it is necessary to eliminate excess brushes. If there is an excess in the next season, the berries and clusters will be smaller and the yield will decrease.
Harvesting
The harvest is harvested in mid-September; in warm southern regions it ripens at the end of August. If there has been a lot of rain during the season, the berries in the cluster will be large and more elongated, but they may burst at the top. The harvest is harvested on warm, dry and sunny days.
Storage and transportability
Grapes are stored in a basement or cellar, separate from other vegetables. The brushes are periodically removed from spoiled berries.
Another method of preservation is to hang the bunches in the cellar on stretched twine. Sometimes the bunches are stored in boxes, sprinkled with sawdust.
In any case, the storage room should be cool, free of foreign odors, and well ventilated. Grapes are not washed before storing.
The transportability of the berries of this variety is high, and the shelf life is above average.
Despite the fact that many new varieties have appeared recently, the Memory Negrul grape remains popular. It is easy to cultivate, and the dark clusters and large berries are tasty and beautiful; in addition, it stores well and is suitable for making wine and compotes.
