A contact-acting fungicide belonging to the chemical group of dithiocarbamates, it is used to destroy pathogens of late blight, dry spotting, and other fungal diseases. "Ditan M-45" is used both on large areas occupied by industrial crops and on subsidiary farms. Potato and tomato bushes and vineyards are treated with a highly effective product.
Manufacturer, form of production and composition
Ditan M-45 is sold in hermetically sealed bags with a capacity of 25 kg.Contents: grayish-yellow powder for dissolution in water. Manufacturer: international chemical company Dow AgroSciences.
Active component – mancozeb (a compound of zinc, manganese and ethylene bisdithiocarbamate) – 800 g/kg.
Purpose and principle of operation
The contact-acting drug “Ditan” protects cultivated plants from fungal infections: late blight, peronospora, alternaria. The active substance of the fungicide is not able to penetrate under the upper protective layer of the epidermis into the internal plant tissues, therefore it is most effective at the initial stage of infection. For a long-term positive result, it is necessary to carry out several treatments, since the fungicide has a short period of action.
In its dry form, mancozeb is not active as a fungicide, but when dissolved in water, it is converted into the active substance ethylene biisothiocyanate sulfide, which under ultraviolet light is converted to ethylene biisothiocyanate.
Both intermediate and final substances affect the enzymatic activity of fungal systems containing sulfhydryl groups. They block the occurrence of enzymatic reactions in mitochondrial cells and the cytoplasm of fungi. In particular, they inhibit enzymes necessary for ATP synthesis. As a result, the development of fungal spores is inhibited.
No cases of development of immunity of fungal pathogens to the fungicide “Ditan” have been identified. The drug is actively used in anti-resistance programs: when used together with another fungicide, it inhibits the development of fungal species that have acquired resistance to the second drug.
In addition to the fungicidal effect, Ditan M-45 exhibits additional effects:
- Zinc and manganese included in the structure of mancozeb improve photosynthesis, due to which the plant grows more actively and becomes more resistant to pathogenic microorganisms;
- Mancozeb has some insecticidal effect, kills whitefly larvae in the initial stages of development, but has no effect on butterflies, and also moderately inhibits spider mites.
Consumption rate and method of application
The required amount of fungicide must be dissolved in water. While continuously stirring, pour into the tank of the spraying device filled with water ½ full. Continuing to stir, add water to the top. Plants on which the first signs of a fungal infection have appeared are sprayed with Ditan M-45 fungicide on a clear day when there is no wind. The foliage is irrigated abundantly and evenly.
The consumption of the working solution for potato and tomato bushes is 300-500 l/ha, for a grape plantation – 800-1000 l/ha. The rules for using the drug and dosage are given in the table.
Processed crop | Application rate, kg/ha | Fungal infection | Features of processing during the growing season | Multiplicity of events | Release dates for works |
potato bushes | 1,2-1,6 | late blight, alternaria | The first treatment is preventive, the next ones with an interval of 8-12 days | 20 (3) | 7(3) |
tomatoes growing in an open area | 1,2-1,6 | late blight, alternaria | the first treatment is preventive, the next ones with an interval of 8-10 days | 20 (3) | 7(3) |
vineyard | 2-3 | anthracnose, rubella, peronosporosis, black rot | the first treatment is preventive, the next ones with an interval of 10-14 days | 30(6) | 7(3) |
It is advisable to spray potato plantations with the fungicide “Ditan” in the second half of the growing season, when the probability of late blight damage is highest.On nightshades, Ditan M-45 is used after treatment with Skor and other fungicidal preparations that can penetrate into plant tissues.
Grape bushes should be sprayed from the opening of the buds to the appearance of flowers. The last treatment should be no later than 20 days before harvesting.
Dithane is resistant to precipitation, but in order for the active substance to adhere to the leaf surface, at least 4 hours must pass from treatment to rain. If it has rained or dew has fallen, then processing should begin after the leaf plates have dried.
Ditan M-45 is most effective if the first treatment is carried out as a preventive treatment, before signs of infection. Do not delay repeated spraying, otherwise the fungal infection will have time to infect new shoots.
Precautions for use
“Ditan” is dangerous for the human body, warm-blooded animals, fish and crustaceans, and is included in the 2nd hazard class. The fungicide is harmless to plants, soil and flying insects, and beneficial microflora living in the soil. It is necessary to work with the drug “Ditan M-45” in standard protective clothing:
- closed work suit;
- plastic glasses;
- respirator;
- rubber gloves.
While working, you must not consume food, drink or smoke. Children and animals should not be nearby. The containers in which the working solution was prepared must not be used in the kitchen. After completing the work, you need to wash your hands and face with a hygiene product and rinse your mouth.
Any solution that gets on the skin or mucous membrane of the eyeballs should be washed off with plenty of water.If you accidentally ingest a fungicide, you should take activated charcoal, drink plenty of water, and contact your doctor to prescribe medications for food poisoning.
Compatibility of the drug "Ditan M-45"
Ditan easily combines with almost all fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and root growth stimulants. The exception is alkaline and oil-based compounds.
It's easy to spot incompatibility. If a precipitate forms during mixing, the drugs should not be combined.
Fungicide storage conditions
Do not store Ditan in a first aid kit, among food products, or in a place where children can climb. The temperature at the storage location should not be higher than +35 °C. After using up the fungicide, the package must be burned.
Ditan M-45 remains usable for 3 years.
