Plant diseases can significantly reduce the yield and its quality, and sometimes can destroy all plantings right at the root. To avoid this, numerous fungicides are used, that is, substances designed to fight infectious agents. Among them, a special place is given to “Tiram”, a broad-spectrum contact fungicide from the chemical class of dithiocarbamates.
Composition and dosage form
Fungicide "Tiram", or TMTD, is a protective and therapeutic preparation of contact action. Its active substance, tetramethylthiuram disulfide, is used in agriculture as a means to combat plant damage. This is a crystalline substance that is white or has a slight tint, odorless, and insoluble in water.
The dosage form of "Tirama" is a 40% suspension concentrate, which can also be called a 40% aqueous suspension concentrate or a 40% flowable paste. All these names hide a colloidal solution that has the consistency of liquid sour cream. The treatment agent packaging always indicates the method of preparing the working solution and the concentration. The instructions must be followed scrupulously.
How the product works
"Thiram" is a contact action drug, which means that it does not penetrate into plants and does not accumulate in them. But on the surface of foliage and fruits, as well as on seeds, it can remain active for up to one and a half months. At the same time, it destroys pathogens of fungal diseases, preventing them from penetrating inside, multiplying and destroying the plantings.
This feature of the product does not allow it to be used against pathogens of fungal infections that penetrate and develop inside the plant.
Area of use
The drug "Thiram" is used as a dressing agent, which is used to treat seeds before sowing. It helps fight extremely dangerous root rot and mold, which can destroy all crops or seedlings in the early stages of development.
"Thiram" is used for grain crops grown for fodder or grain, as well as legumes and oilseeds.Since the drug has the property of not decomposing for a long time and accumulating in soil and water, it is not used for treating plantings, but is left as an effective seed dressing.
Instructions for use of the drug "Tiram"
The recommended consumption rate of the working solution is 5-15 liters of suspension per ton. Treatment is one time per season. The product is used on the following plants:
Name of culture | Suspension consumption rate |
Corn | 3-4 liters per ton |
Sunflower | 4-5 liters per ton of seeds |
Winter rapeseed | 3 liters |
Sugar beet | 8 liters |
Winter wheat | 3-4 liters |
Winter barley | 3-4 liters |
Soybeans | 6-8 liters per 1000 kilograms of seeds |
The working solution must be prepared immediately before use. Since the product is a colloidal suspension, during storage it can easily separate and lose its beneficial qualities. The rules for preparing and storing the composition apply to pure Tiram solution and tank mixtures with it, as well as to preparations containing tetramethylthiuram disulfide.
Safety precautions
The drug "Tiram" and fungicides that contain TMTD are classified as hazard classes 2 and 3, so they must be treated with extreme caution and care. The product is also dangerous for bees, fish and animals. When working with it, you must adhere to the following rules:
- Work only in protective clothing, goggles and a respirator.
- Some people, when wearing rubber products, may experience an allergic reaction to Tiram and preparations containing it, so it is better to use latex gloves and non-rubber-based shoes.
- While working, you must not smoke, drink, or eat.
- The main substance is incompatible with alcohol.Taking it can lead to severe poisoning. “Thiram” and its derivatives are poisons with a lipotropic effect, affecting the liver, kidneys, causing headaches, nausea, pressure changes and heart rhythm disturbances.
- Contact with the drug on the skin provokes the development of dermatitis, and in the eyes - conjunctivitis. If this happens, you need to quickly rinse with plenty of clean water and urgently seek medical help.
Fungicide compatibility
"Tiram" is not phytotoxic and can be used in mixtures with most other fungicides, as well as with agents used for seed treatment. The product does not inhibit the growth of nodule bacteria and does not reduce the activity of bacteria-based fertilizers. If you plan to use bacterial fertilizers, you need to treat the seeds with Tiram before using them.
Storage conditions and shelf life
The drug must be stored in an original or labeled tightly closed container, in a dark and dry place, protected from exposure to sunlight. It is prohibited to keep the product near medicines, food, or animal feed. It is best to store Thiram and similar substances away from residential premises.
Storage temperatures range between +15 and +35 degrees Celsius. The shelf life of the drug is 3 years.
What can be replaced
In agriculture, many products containing TMTD are used.Among them, the most famous are the following:
- "Vitavax."
- "Vitalon".
- "Vitaros".
- Granuflo.
- "Healthy Earth".
- "Healthy Lawn" and many others.
The danger of the drug requires increased attention when using it, but if the rules are followed, negative consequences can be successfully avoided.
