Very often in cabbage beds you can find a large number of pests that spoil the harvest. To get rid of insects and keep the forks intact, cabbage can be sprayed with valerian. It is not recommended to treat plants with chemicals, so you can use folk remedies, which are no less effective.
What insects can you get rid of with valerian tincture?
The problem of pests on cabbage is of great concern to many gardeners and gardeners. The fight is made difficult by the fact that the parasites crawl inside the fork and hide under the leaves. They may not show themselves for a long time, and the gardener may not realize that a significant part of the crop has already been damaged.
Most often you can find the following insects in cabbage beds:
- Horseradish leaf beetle.
The horseradish leaf beetle, or as it is also called - babanukha, is a tiny bug with black wings with a greenish-metallic tint and brown legs. In June, females gnaw shallow holes in the leaves and lay their eggs there, from which larvae hatch.
- Green baride.
Barid is a small bug, the body diameter is approximately 3 - 4 mm, of a rich blue hue with a metallic tint. The wings of the parasite are covered with grooves. The main sign of its appearance on bushes is yellowing of the leaves and the formation of small growths on them.
- Whitefly
Another common parasite that can often be found on cruciferous crops. The whitefly is very similar in appearance to the moth-like lepidoptera. The body is white or red-yellow.
- Spring cabbage fly.
Outwardly it looks like an ordinary fly, only smaller in size. Fly larvae feed on cabbage leaves.
- Wavy flea beetle
The wavy flea beetle is a small black beetle with yellow stripes on its wings, about 3 mm long. The larvae of the wavy flea beetle are up to 5 mm long.
Also very often you can find a large number of aphids and cabbage butterflies on plants.
Heads of cabbage should be periodically inspected for the presence of these insects and at the first signs of appearance they can be sprayed with valerian.
Valerian with soap against pests
One of the most effective remedies against pests is a solution of valerian with the addition of soap. You can take regular liquid soap, but it is better to use laundry soap.
At the first signs of disease and the appearance of insects on seedlings, it must be urgently treated with a solution of valerian. To prepare it, take 3 liters of water and 1 bottle of alcohol tincture of valerian root. You need to take 2 tbsp of liquid soap. l. Dilute all the ingredients in water and spray all the bushes, even those that at first glance are quite healthy.
If after a few days there is heavy rain, then re-treatment is required.
A month before harvest, forks can be treated with ammonia for preventative purposes. To do this, dilute 1 bottle of ammonia and laundry soap in 5 liters of water, and then treat all the plants.
Valerian tincture for cabbage against pests will help cope with insect infestations even without the use of soap. You can also plant valerian bushes in the beds. Valerian has a strong aroma that repels pests.
Valerian juice for insects
Spraying with valerian juice is also effective in controlling pests that feed on cabbage leaves. To prepare this product, you need to take 1 kg of fresh stems and leaves of the plant and grind it through a meat grinder. Then squeeze out the juice through cheesecloth, pour it into a glass jar and put it in the refrigerator. There it can be stored for up to one month. If necessary, 10 drops of juice should be diluted in 10 liters of pesticide solution and the cabbage beds should be treated with this product.
A decoction of valerian root and tobacco leaves against insects on cabbage
To quickly get rid of parasites on cabbage bushes, you can use a decoction of tobacco leaves with valerian.For 5 liters of water you need to take 500 grams of fresh tobacco leaves and 200 grams of fresh valerian root. Place on low heat and bring to boiling point.
After the broth boils, it must be removed from the heat and placed in a dark place to cool to room temperature and infuse. The next day you can spray the cabbage beds with it. It is recommended to carry out the procedure twice a week until the insects completely disappear from the plants.
If some time after spraying there was heavy rain, then the next day the treatment with a decoction of tobacco leaves and valerian root must be repeated.
For prevention, you can treat the beds with vegetables that are located next to the cabbage. This will help prevent the recurrence of parasites.
