- You can use a hot knife to remove it. This allows you to preserve the integrity of the cells and use them in the future. The larvae need to be ground until smooth and passed through a fine sieve and cheesecloth twice.
- The second extraction method is considered simpler, but it does not allow you to save the cells. They need to be pulled out, divided into pieces, the cake separated and the raw materials filtered 2 times.
All actions must be performed as quickly as possible, since the product made from drone larvae deteriorates very quickly - especially when exposed to sunlight. Literally 30 minutes in the heat can spoil the composition and cause it to turn black.
Therefore, immediately after receiving the homogenate, it is necessary to preserve, package and create suitable conditions for storage.
The homogenate obtained from honeycombs is recommended to be stored at a temperature of -5 to +2 degrees during the day. In cooler conditions – up to 1 month. This period is possible at temperatures from -5 to -8 degrees. To increase shelf life, preservation of the substance is necessary. To do this, you should use the following methods:
- Mix drone brood with honey in a 1:1 ratio and place in the freezer.
- Combine the homogenate with honey in a ratio of 1:5 or 1:10 and place in the refrigerator. In such conditions, the shelf life of the product is 6 months.
- Mix the product with 40% alcohol in a ratio of 1:50. Keep the composition in the refrigerator.
- Use an adsorbent in the form of a mixture of lactose and glucose. The homogenate is mixed with the adsorbent in a ratio of 1:6. The composition must be stored in this form for 3 years.
- Dry and grind to a powder. Store at a temperature not exceeding +40 degrees. The composition should not be kept in a transparent glass container, as this may spoil the substance.
