After birth, many ducklings may suffer from various infectious diseases. This happens because the body is still developing and growing. To preserve the health of living creatures, you need to use various types of bactericidal agents. Baytril stands out among them. To avoid excesses with overdose, you need to study the instructions for using Baytril for ducklings.
Composition and release form of "Baytril"
The drug is produced by the German concern Bayer. Its main active ingredient is enrofloxacin.Depending on its concentration, the drug is available in three types:
- 2,5 %;
- 5 %;
- 10 %.
This number corresponds to the number of ml of enrofloxacin in solution. Of these three types, the last type of medicine is recommended for birds.
What is it used for?
"Baytril 10" is used to prevent and treat birds against the following bacteria and infections:
- salmonella;
- shigella;
- Escherichia;
- mycoplasma;
- Haemophilus influenzae;
- bacteroides;
- clostridia.
U ducklings these diseases manifest themselves in the form of damage to the respiratory tract, eyes, and disruptions in the digestive system. If you notice a cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis or diarrhea in birds, then you need to start saving your farm.
"Baytril" is an antibiotic directed against bacteria. It can either kill them quickly or stop them from reproducing. In the second case, over time, the bacteria still die, but without the growth of the “army” they very quickly lose their strength. In both cases, the symptoms go away very quickly. The ducklings are recovering.
Instructions for use for ducklings
According to the instructions for use of Baytril 10, 5 ml of the drug is diluted in 10 liters of water. This solution is given to ducklings for drinking. In order not to cause an overdose of the drug, you need to correctly calculate the daily fluid intake for the bird that needs to be treated.
The main carriers of danger for small ducklings are adults in whom the disease is asymptomatic. Therefore, before collecting medicinal liquid into the drinking bowl, it must be disinfected. Preventive treatment begins 3 days after the appearance of the duckling.As a rule, temperature also affects the development of diseases. Therefore, you need to follow the rules of bird care. It is necessary to periodically ventilate the brooder so that the air temperature does not exceed 25 degrees.
The drug is introduced into the body through injections. This way, the antibiotic will work much faster. On the other hand, processing poultry this way on a large farm is a labor-intensive task. But the faster the “bacteria killer” works, the sooner the duckling’s life will be saved. After the injection enters the body, Baytril works within 45 minutes and lasts for 24 hours. Once inside the bird, the drug releases a special enzyme that breaks down harmful bacteria and infection.
The medicine is safe for the health of birds, and the resulting side effects are observed in approximately 10% of individuals. It does not affect reproductive function. After taking it, ducklings will be able to lay eggs normally when they grow up.
The drug is excreted from the body of ducklings within 12 days, so it is not allowed to slaughter birds during this period of time or eat their eggs. Most often, treatment lasts about 5 days. Only in case of serious infections with dangerous salmonella, the course can last about 14 days.
Contraindications and side effects
Baytril is a very strong antibiotic. Depending on the age of the bird, the characteristics of its body and the strength of the immune system, side effects may occur:
- loose stools;
- allergy;
- decreased activity.
In addition, the medicine affects the bird’s body as a whole. A few weeks after its use, microbiocenosis disturbances occur in the digestive system; in these cases, probiotics are used.
If the duck was slaughtered within 11 days after taking the medicine, it is contraindicated for a person to consume this meat in the Pushcha, but it is quite suitable for fur-bearing animals. The same applies to the eggs of treated birds.
Terms and conditions of storage
The medicine is stored in a dry room at a temperature of 5 to 25 degrees. When sealed, Baytril is stored for 3 years, and when opened – 15-30 days. After use or after expiration of the shelf life, the drug must be disposed of.
Analogs
Baytril is an inexpensive drug that does its job well. However, there are times when you need to replace it. The analogue is selected according to the active substance – enrofloxacin. It contains the following:
- "Entrofloxacin";
- "Enroxil";
- "Entroflox";
- "Entroflon".
Farming is not easy. As the bird grows, it has a weak immune system. Many individuals die from infections and microbes. This leads to financial losses. Therefore, it is worthwhile to treat birds in a timely manner.
