When raising any poultry, it is difficult to do without the use of veterinary medications. Often even chicks need treatment. Many poultry farmers are interested in how to properly breed Enrostin for ducklings. It is advisable to have this drug in your home veterinary kit. Because the medicine helps cure not only respiratory infections, but also gastrointestinal ones.
Composition and release form of "Enrostin"
The drug is produced in the form of a solution for oral use (the shade of the liquid can vary from rich yellow to pale yellow, with slight turbidity). The composition of the medicine includes several ingredients:
- enrofloxacin (main substance, 100 mg in 1 ml of solution);
- colistin sulfate;
- sodium metabisulfate;
- distilled water;
- lactic acid;
- benzyl alcohol.
The drug is released in small doses of 10-200 ml or large ones (from 500 ml to 1 l). The containers used are dark glass bottles and polymer canisters with plastic screw caps.
In what cases is it used?
"Enrostin" belongs to the group of combined antibacterial drugs. The medicine has a wide range of antimicrobial properties:
- enrofloxacin inhibits the development and spread of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria;
- Colistin sulfate causes the death of gram-negative bacteria.
The drug is prescribed in case of the following diseases of ducklings: mycoplasmosis, streptococcus, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, necrotic enteritis.
How to dilute and dosage
Based on the degree of exposure, the medicine is considered moderately dangerous and is well tolerated by both adult birds and chicks. The medicinal solution is added to the bird's drinking water, while the ducklings are not allowed to drink other liquids.
The standard dosage for treatment is 1 ml of the drug diluted in a liter of water. Veterinarians often recommend giving the drug to chicks for preventive purposes (starting from the 2nd day of life). For these purposes, a less concentrated medicinal solution is prepared (1 ml of Enrostin is diluted in 2 liters of water). The duration of prophylaxis is 5 days.
Side effects and contraindications
Enrostin is not compatible with other antibiotics containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, since these elements reduce its effectiveness. It is also not allowed to give chicks additional antibiotics (Theophylline, Tetracycline, Levomycetin) to avoid overdose.
Allergic reactions in birds (in the form of loss of appetite, diarrhea, impaired coordination of movements) can be caused by individual intolerance to certain elements. In this case, stop treatment immediately. To restore health, chicks are prescribed desensitizing therapy.
It is forbidden to administer the drug to ducklings with nervous system disorders, severe kidney or liver diseases.
Analogs
Popular analogues of Enrostin: Enronit, Enroflon-K. The drugs also help fight gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases of bacterial etiology. The main active ingredient of the analogs is also enrofloxacin. There are no fundamental differences between antibiotics (the differences lie in the dosage of the active substance and the set of auxiliary components).
Enrostin demonstrates effectiveness in the treatment of many diseases of ducklings. The main requirement of therapy is compliance with the instructions for use. In case of controversial or problematic situations, consultation with a veterinarian is recommended.
