Pink tomatoes have long won their place in the vegetable market, and now it is almost impossible to find a garden where this type of tomato is grown. They attract with their high taste qualities, large fruits with a fleshy structure. This is the new hybrid from the Sedek company - the tomato Gift for a Woman (F1).
About the hybrid
The description of the hybrid, according to the register of vegetable crops of the Russian Federation, indicates the possibility of its cultivation in spring film greenhouses throughout the European part of Russia; it is also suitable for cultivation in open ground. Ripening period is early. The bush is of a determinate type, 70 cm high, after 2-3 inflorescences its growth is independently restrained and a compact plant is formed. The fruits are collected in clusters of 5-6 pieces. The productivity is high; during the summer one bush produces at least 10, maximum 30 excellent tomatoes.
Characteristics of the fruits: very large, deep pink, round, weighing from 200 to 250 g, mostly equal in weight. The pulp is of moderate density. In general, the tomatoes are very juicy, there are few seeds, the skin is thin and edible. Varieties like the hybrid Gift to a Woman (F1) are in high demand among consumers for making salads, fresh consumption and baby food.
The pulp of pink tomatoes is very tender, the juice and tomato paste from these tomatoes are characterized by unsurpassed taste and technological properties.
Recommendations for cultivation
Feedback from those who have planted pink varieties of tomatoes suggests that they should be planted a little wider than ordinary ones. Then the fruits turn out larger and sweeter, and more spreading bushes produce more fruits. The best planting scheme is 50 x 50 cm. There is no need to plant a lot of pink tomato bushes in your dacha; it is better to provide better care to a smaller number of bushes. The bushes need to be tied to a low support during the period of fruit growth, since heavy fruits often break off the entire branch.
Tomatoes Gift for a Woman (F1) need to be grown in seedlings. Seeds should be prepared in advance. Pre-sowing seed treatment includes:
- Seed calibration and determination of their viability. To do this, the seeds are dipped into water - the puny and weak ones float up and are removed. The drowned are taken for further processing;
- Seed disinfection. This operation is easiest to carry out using potassium permanganate. For 15-20 minutes, you need to immerse the seeds in a pink solution of potassium permanganate.
Trading companies often offer seeds in shells of different colors - green or blue. These seeds are high quality. They have already been prepared; there is no need to soak them.
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in the first ten days of March. The sowing depth is at least 1.5 cm, otherwise the cotyledon leaves will not be able to free themselves from the seed coat and will stop developing. The boxes with the sown seeds are covered with glass or film and placed in a warm place; they do not need lighting now. Soil for seedlings is a mixture of garden soil and humus in equal parts.
After emergence, seedlings need to be provided with lighting, as well as watering and fertilizing. Picking of seedlings is carried out when the first true leaf is formed.
The seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place at the age of 60-65 days. Good seedlings during this period may already have flower buds. In order for plants to adapt as easily as possible, they need to be hardened. About a week before planting in the ground, the boxes with seedlings are taken outside, gradually accustoming them to the effects of sun and wind. At the time of planting, it is good to immerse the roots in a clay mash mixed with mullein.
Many of those who planted varieties such as Gift to a Woman recommend not setting up high greenhouses for these tomatoes. On the contrary, they grow better in the first half of the growing season in a low greenhouse, and then, at high air temperatures, the greenhouse is removed. Stronger plants are less affected by diseases, they use moisture and light most efficiently, and they have higher yields.
After fruit set, plants need feeding. For pink tomatoes, it is good to prepare a mullein infusion; you can fertilize it with chicken droppings. These fertilizers are very concentrated, so they need to be diluted 8-10 times. The industry produces new humic fertilizers that are good for feeding tomatoes by leaves or at the root. It is necessary to carry out at least two feedings, and preferably three, so you can alternate feeding at the root and at the leaf.
Reviews about the hybrid
We tested the cultivation of the hybrid Gift for a Woman F1 by sowing seeds in the soil under a covering material. We received the harvest in August and are very pleased with the results. The covering material was removed in June. The last fruits can be harvested before frost and ripened indoors. These tomatoes store well. We plant only determinate varieties. We will plant Gift for a Woman every year because of its unpretentiousness, the fruits are very large, and the yield is high.
The hybrid is very flexible, it can be grown early, for example, in a heated greenhouse, sowing seeds for seedlings in February, or you can sow the seeds later, directly into the soil under the film. In both cases, a good harvest was obtained. We tried many pink varieties, but Gift to a Woman is the most resistant to late blight and heat-resistant.
As can be seen from the reviews, Gift for a Woman F1 has won the recognition of vegetable growers and consumers. Try to grow it on your plot, and it will delight you with large and tasty pink tomatoes.
