From the history of the creation of the variety
Climbing Aloha was bred by German breeders in 2003. Specialists from the Kordes company crossed a Westerland rose and a hybrid rugosa roses Rugelda. Already in 2006, the variety was awarded a certificate of honor in France.
Description and characteristics of Aloha rose
The shoots of the culture reach a height of 2.5 meters. The bush spreads up to 100 centimeters in width. The leaves are green and glossy. The inflorescences consist of 5-10 flowers, the diameter of which reaches 10 centimeters. The petals are painted in tones of an orange-pink palette. During flowering, a delicate aroma emanates from the bush.
Strong shoots have a large number of thorns. The peculiarity of Aloha is that it blooms twice a year. It can withstand both southern heat and climates in temperate latitudes.
Subtleties of growing crops
Purchase seedlings from plant nurseries or garden centers from reliable sellers. The age of the plants should not exceed 1-2 years, otherwise it will be more difficult for them to take root.
When and where to plant
Roses are planted in open ground in spring or autumn. Choose a sunny place, protected from cold winds. Flowers are prone to fading, so on a hot afternoon the area should be shaded.
Note! The rose is planted at some elevation, otherwise the root system may rot.
Preparation of planting material
The seedling is placed in a bucket of water. To disinfect the plant, add several crystals of potassium permanganate. Roots that are too long are trimmed. The shoots are shortened to 15-20 centimeters.
Landing instructions
The Aloha rose is planted on the site like this:
- dig a hole measuring 50x50 centimeters;
- pour a layer of expanded clay or small stones;
- the pit is half filled with fertile substrate;
- Place the seedling in the middle, straighten the roots;
- Cover with soil up to the root collar.
The plant is watered abundantly, the root circle is mulched with peat or sawdust.
Difficulties in caring for the plant
Care consists of watering, fertilizing, loosening the soil, and removing weeds. To maintain the decorative appearance of the plant, faded buds are removed. After the first wave of flowering, the shoots are pruned. The procedure promotes the formation of lateral branches with young buds.
Required humidity
High humidity can damage the plant. With frequent overhead irrigation, there is a possibility of powdery mildew appearing on the bush. For this reason, water is poured only at the root.
About watering and fertilizing
Water the Aloha rose after the top layer of soil has dried. If the soil does not have time to dry out, the root system may be affected by putrefactive microorganisms. 2-3 buckets of water are poured under the bush. The crop is fed up to 5 times per season. In spring, nitrogen is used to increase green mass. Then mineral fertilizers with an advantage in the composition of potassium and phosphorus are applied.
Pruning and wintering
In early spring, old, diseased, frozen shoots are pruned. 5-10 buds are left on young branches. In spring they will begin to bloom profusely. Old shoots are shortened to 2-3 buds. To carry out the procedure, disinfected pruning shears are used.
An adult rose can withstand winter cold well. It is enough to cover it with peat and compost. If severe frosts are expected, spruce paws are laid out around the bush, the stems are bent to them, and secured. The structure is covered with agrofibre.
Important! In order for the rose to safely withstand the cold, water-recharging watering is carried out in mid-autumn.
Plants suitable for companionship with the Aloha rose
The bush of the crop is tall, so low-growing plants coexist beautifully next to it. These can be evergreen or deciduous shrubs, annual or perennial flowers. The orange-pink inflorescences of Aloha are effectively set off by the colors of the blue palette: sage, lavender, bells.
Breeding rules
The easiest way to propagate the climbing rose Aloha is by layering. The procedure is performed as follows:
- make a groove 7-10 centimeters deep;
- lay the stem, secure it with a wire bracket;
- covered with earth.
Care consists of watering, loosening, and removing weeds. After some time, young bushes will appear. They are separated with a shovel and transplanted to a new place.
Use in landscape design
The Aloha rose is planted near buildings that have supports: arches, arbors, pergolas, columns. To maintain the decorative appearance of the bush, the stems are tied up. The crop will look impressive in the form of a tapeworm against the background of a lawn.
