Fermented bran is understood as an organo-microbiological preparation that activates the processing of plant or animal residues. It is produced from organic raw materials through deep fermentation processes by beneficial microorganisms. The finished composition is added to the soil with manure or used independently as a top dressing. Thanks to its use, it is possible to increase the organic content in the soil.
What does it consist of?
Fermented bran is also called bokashi.They are among the well-known microbiological fertilizers that can quickly restore the natural fertility of any type of soil. Bokashi is bran that has just been fermented by beneficial microorganisms. Most often, rice and wheat bran are involved in the process.
Due to the presence of valuable microorganisms in the substance, it helps to improve the structural characteristics of the soil, increases its fertility, provides adequate nutrition for plants and copes with many pathologies that are caused by pathogenic microorganisms.
Why are fermented bran needed in agriculture?
The drug can be used in different ways:
- The product is used to prepare the soil for planting and fertilize plants during the growing season. The composition is applied in its pure form, without additional processing. This is done in spring and autumn.
- The product is suitable for composting plant residues. This can be done directly in the beds.
- The composition is used to clear land for cultivation.
- The product is used to make compost. It can be used outdoors. The product is also suitable for indoor use.
- In the form of tea, the composition can be used to apply under the root. It is also used in public utilities.
Beneficial features
The biologically active agent is often used in suburban areas or in livestock farming. If you pour the composition into an outdoor toilet, you can get rid of the bad smell in 12 hours. Using bran in a chicken coop can remove the lingering odor of bird droppings. The composition is also added to livestock feed. This helps improve the functions of the digestive organs, the quality of meat and dairy products, and the condition of the coat.
The beneficial properties of the drug include the following:
- The product helps to quickly transform vegetable waste from the kitchen, fallen leaves, and hay into effective organic matter.
- The composition helps to revitalize the soil that has been prepared for seedlings.
- The substance ensures rapid composting and rotting of fresh manure.
- The drug helps restore sunburned grass.
- The substance helps garden plants better use the macroelements that are present in the soil.
- The product blocks the development of pathogenic microflora in the soil.
- The drug increases the humus content in the soil.
To achieve soil restoration and improvement, it is recommended to combine bokashi with planting green manure plants.
Pros and cons of use
Using the product in dachas and garden plots has the following advantages:
- substance safety;
- convenient form of release - the composition is released in the form of dry granules;
- stable specific gravity - this allows you to dose the product with improvised devices;
- high efficiency on soils with pesticide residues;
- high technological breadth - even arbitrary use of bran does not affect the result;
- complete clearing of the undeveloped area from weeds without the use of herbicides;
- the possibility of composting plant waste directly on the beds;
- absence of strong aromas at all stages of using fermented bran;
- Possibility of storing the substance in residential premises.
At the same time, fermented bran also has a number of disadvantages:
- the need to use an opened package of bran during the day;
- the need for protection from the sun after applying the drug to the soil - for this, the beds need to be sprinkled with soil or organic mulch;
- it is inadmissible to use the composition for foliar feeding - this is due to high acidity;
- impossibility of using the substance in neutral or acidic soil;
- the impossibility of combining fermented bran with other drugs;
- incompatibility of the drug with other agrochemicals.
DIY cooking technology
The product is easy to prepare yourself. To do this you need to take the following:
- 6 buckets of seedings;
- 1 liter bokashi;
- 1 liter of EM preparation;
- 7 liters of water;
- 4 kilograms of sugar.
To make the drug, it is recommended to perform the following steps:
- Dissolve sugar in water.
- Add the EM preparation to the solution and leave for 12 hours.
- You need to make the solution in small portions. To do this, pour 1.5 liters of syrup into a container with seedings and add 2 handfuls of the active substance. Then mix thoroughly.
- Cover with film and place in a warm room for a week.
Fermented bran is considered an effective type of fertilizer that helps solve a whole range of problems. At the same time, the product has a natural composition and does not harm cultivated plants and people.
