Scientists are not always involved in the selection of garden crops. Amateur gardeners also love to experiment. Likewise, the Sensatsiya grape variety is the fruit of the experience of a winegrower with extensive experience, V.Kapelyushny. On his plantation, an amateur bred Sensation grapes back in the last century, crossing the Talisman and Rizamat varieties. The result was truly sensational. In addition to excellent taste, the culture also has many positive characteristics.
Description of the variety
Table grapes are different:
- vigorous growth of shoots;
- decorative effect of carved bright green leaves;
- the color of long, ladyfingers-like berries, from yellowish to pinkish;
- large fruits weigh up to 16-30 grams, and clusters from 700 grams to 1 kilogram;
- lush clusters of cone-shaped or cylindrical shape;
- sweet taste with nutmeg aroma.
The description of the berries cannot fail to include the unique aroma of the fruit, the meatiness and juiciness of the pulp. The Sensation variety is often confused with the Cinsault or Bull's Eye grapes, which are zoned in the southern regions, with dark purple berries. The variety of amateur selection differs from its Western European counterpart in terms of ripening. They ripen later and are not resistant to frost.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages of Sensation grapes, compared to other types of crops, are the fact that the bushes:
- tolerate frosts of 24-25 degrees;
- rarely suffer from major infections;
- propagate by rooting cuttings;
- give good yields.
In order for the vine to bear fruit better, shoots are pruned on time. You can’t overload the bushes, otherwise the quality of the berries will be low. They will become small and watery.
Characteristics
The main parameters of the culture include the fact that Sensation grapes:
- ripens within 100-110 days;
- self-pollinating, as it is covered in spring with both female and male flowers;
- has loose clusters with large elongated berries;
- the fruits are well preserved and can be transported over long distances;
- bears fruit abundantly with berries with sweet pulp, giving off a little nutmeg.
It is not without reason that Sensation is considered the best early-ripening table grape.
Planting Tips
A heat-loving plant needs places well lit by the sun. The soil for Sensation grapes is prepared in advance. Holes for seedlings are dug to a depth of 70-80 centimeters and a width of 50-60. There should be a gap of 1.5-2 meters between the holes. Be sure to pour fertile soil into the holes, mixing it with superphosphate (100 grams), potassium salt (50 grams).
Annual seedlings are selected with strong roots. They are cut off, leaving a length of 15-20 centimeters. The aerial part is shortened to 2 buds.
A seedling is placed in the middle of the hole and the roots are sprinkled with nutritious soil. It is better to stick the peg in immediately and tie the shoot to it. Many people dig in a pipe with a diameter of 10 centimeters nearby. It is used to water and fertilize the bushes.
Growing and care
When planting, from the 2 remaining buds, 2 shoots grow per season. The stepsons that appear on the sides are pinched above the 2-3rd leaf. New shoots should be completely broken off.
After the grapes spend the winter under cover, prune the vines, leaving 2 buds on each. In the spring of the 3rd year of life there will already be 4 vines, or sleeves. In the fall they will produce 8 shoots. On each sleeve you need to form 2 processes. On one, up to 12 buds are left, on the other, the replacement shoot, 2-3 buds.
The normal load on grapes is considered to be no more than 40-50 buds. This means that 10-14 of them are left on each sleeve. After fruiting, after 5-6 years, the sleeves need to be replaced. It will come from 2 strong replacement shoots.
Without proper formation, grapes will not produce large and tasty bunches of berries.
Plants need to be watered 2-3 times during the summer. It is imperative to moisten the plantation in October.
Fertilizing consists of applying organic fertilizers in the spring, mineral fertilizers in the fall. It is enough to add a bucket of bird droppings solution diluted in a ratio of 1:15 and 100 grams of wood ash to the bush.
The dense soil of the vineyard needs loosening.
About diseases and pests
The Sensatsia grape variety rarely succumbs to disease. The plant is extremely resistant to mildew and oidium. The development of fungal infections can be prevented by preventative treatment of bushes with fungicides: “Radomil”, “Quadris”.
Insecticidal agents will protect the vine from pests: “Aktara”, “Match”.
Proper care and well-executed agricultural technology of the grape crop will lead to abundant fruiting. And the quality of the berries will always be at a high level in terms of taste, aroma, and size.
