The apple tree variety Pamyat Esaul has been successfully grown by Russian gardeners for many years. The tree produces fruits of above average size, the tasting qualities of which are rated as high. If you want to plant an early winter species on your site, you should pay attention to fruit trees of this variety and become familiar with the peculiarities of their cultivation.
History of the variety
The variety appeared thanks to many years of work by a group of scientists who conducted crossbreeding experiments apple trees Prima and Kandil Krasnodarsky. In 2002, it was entered into the State Register and received recognition as one of the best achievements of selection. Fruit trees are recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus.
Description and features
Apple trees of this variety belong to the category of low-growing, forming a compact crown. The branches grow upward and have a brownish-gray bark. The inflorescences formed in the spring are distinguished by the delicate white-cream color of the petals with characteristic pink veins.
Judging by the description, the apple tree belongs to the early winter varieties. The formed fruits are above average in size. The peel of the fruit is light green in color and has a smooth surface to the touch. Externally, the effect of the presence of wax and the feeling that the fruit has been smeared with oil is created.
On the sunny side of the fruit, which received more sunlight, a pinkish blush forms. The color of the fruit does not change during storage and corresponds to that observed at the moment of full ripening.
The number of narrow seeds in one chamber can reach 5 pieces. A special feature of the variety is the juicy, tender pulp of apples, which can become sour-sweet during long-term storage. The fruits have a slightly elongated shape, and their average weight reaches 190 g. The variety is actively used for industrial production, including for fresh consumption and high-quality juices.
Additional characteristics of the variety
The advantages of the variety include decent taste quality, early harvest period and the ability to adapt to difficult growing conditions. The highly commercial qualities of the fruit and the advantages of a garden crop make it possible to use apple trees for production on a farm scale.The advantages include the following:
- early fruiting period;
- the possibility of growing in places with close water;
- large tasty fruits;
- the variety is undemanding in terms of growing conditions and care;
- ability to tolerate lack of moisture and cold temperature conditions.
On a personal plot, when planting the Pamyat Esaula variety, space savings are achieved, which is due to the compactness and small size of the apple tree. A fruit tree needs pollinator plants, which are best suited for the Golden Delicious or Peach variety. The plant has a shallow root system, so it needs timely, sufficient watering.
This feature makes it possible to plant in places where groundwater is close to the surface.
Dwarf apple trees that have entered the fruiting stage need additional support. In its absence, the tree may not be able to withstand the weight of the fruit and break. Untimely harvesting of apples is fraught with a decrease in the yield and quality of the fruit, and during storage a “tanning” effect may be observed. Delay in harvesting time can lead to massive fruit shedding.
Tree dimensions
An apple tree can be grown on seed or dwarf rootstock; the height of the mature tree will depend on the method chosen. In the first case, the maximum height is 4 m, in the second - 2.5 m. To preserve the selection properties, it is important to follow the planting technology. The grafting location should rise 3-5 cm above ground level, otherwise the tree will lose its stunted quality.
Garden crops require timely pruning for proper crown formation.To increase the diameter, young shoots are left, the direction of growth of which is directed outward. Strong branches are left below, allowing the fruit tree to grow upward. In order to rejuvenate it, the growths are trimmed.
Frequency of fruiting
The branches of the apple tree form ringlets, on which, starting from the age of two years, the trees form fruits. In some cases, a small amount of apples can form an annual plant. It is important to remove ripe fruits in a timely manner, as they have the ability to shed.
The fruit ripens in mid-September and is ready for consumption within a month. The storage period can reach February. The amount of yield depends on the age of the fruit crop:
- from 4 to 5 years - 80 c/ha;
- from 8 to 9 - 328 c/ha.
The fruiting period of the variety varies from 15 to 20 years. At the same time, productivity indicators are comparable to those demonstrated by traditional varieties of apple trees for 30-40 years.
Tasting evaluation of fruits
The aroma and taste of an apple is rated on a scale of 5 points at 4.7. The composition of the fruit pulp contains 11.7% sugar; 100 g of fruit contains 12.8 mg of vitamin C.
Frost resistance
The quality of frost resistance of the variety is assessed as high. Garden crops are able to withstand low ambient temperatures.
Disease resistance
Esaul's memory refers to apple tree varieties that were among the first to acquire the ability to resist scab. According to gardeners, the plant copes with fungal diseases and powdery mildew. Most often the plant is attacked by the codling moth.
Regions of growth
Initially, the early winter variety was bred for active cultivation in the North Caucasus.Plantings in the Krasnodar Territory demonstrate good productivity indicators, so Memory of Esaul is today considered as a promising species for cultivation in the southern regions of Russia.
