Construction of a residential building is considered a responsible undertaking that requires a lot of effort, time and financial costs. Incorrect placement of structures on the site causes various difficulties. Sometimes buildings have to be removed altogether. Therefore, many people have a question about what the distance to the border of the neighboring plot should be. When choosing a specific option, you should focus on building codes.

What should be the distance
Building regulations were first adopted in 1955. Since then they have been adjusted many times. Thus, SP 42. 13330. 2011 is a document that is considered a modern version of SNiP 2.07.01-89. It refers to the construction of residential buildings.There is also regulation SP 53.13330. 2011, which defines issues regarding summer cottages.
When determining the minimum interval to the border of a neighboring plot, you should focus on the following standards:
- from a residential building - 3 meters;
- from the structure for poultry and small livestock - 4 meters;
- from other structures – 1 meter;
- from tall trees – 4 meters;
- from the bushes - 1 meter.
The interval between a residential building, utility buildings and the border of the neighbors' property is measured from the wall of the house. The base of the building can also be used as a basis. This recommendation should be followed if the components of the building protrude a maximum of 50 centimeters from the surface of the wall. This applies to the roof, canopy, porch and other elements.
If any parts of the structure protrude more than 50 centimeters, the interval is measured from them. When constructing outbuildings that are located 1 meter from the border, the roof slope must be positioned so that precipitation runoff does not reach the neighbors.
Other building codes
Before construction begins, it is important to determine the red line. This zone separates private property from public territory. Compliance with this rule is very important. Any structure extending beyond this line may be demolished in accordance with a court decision.
Red lines indicate boundaries. They serve to separate areas from different elements. These include, in particular, the following:
- main pipelines;
- railways;
- power lines;
- communication lines;
- car roads.
The red line requires amendments to the construction. It is permissible to locate a residential building at least 5 meters from it. In this case, it is recommended to plant tall trees at a distance of 4 meters.It is important that these objects do not interfere with the free passage of fire fighting equipment and special vehicles. Also, they should not worsen the illumination of buildings.
The construction of objects on the site must be carried out according to the rules. It is recommended to take into account building regulations. If legal regulations are violated, the building may be demolished based on a court decision.
