Composition and instructions for use of Ivermek for pigeons, dosage in water

Parasitic infestations that spread to the entire flock often become a real problem for poultry farmers. A drug that kills ticks, fleas, and roundworms, called “Ivermek,” is used to treat pigeons in a therapeutic dosage by adding it to the water that is fed to the birds, or by external application. To use the product effectively and safely, you must follow the recommendations and requirements of the instructions.

Active substances and dosage form

The composition is represented by two pharmacologically active components - ivemectin and tocopherol (vitamin E) in quantities of 10 and 40 milligrams per 1 milliliter of the total volume of the mixture, respectively. "Ivermek" has the appearance of a colorless or yellowish solution with slight opalescence. The liquid is packaged in glass containers with a volume of 1 to 500 milliliters, sealed for rolling, or in plastic bottles with a capacity of 400, 500 milliliters and 1 liter.

When is Ivermek needed?

"Ivermek" has a powerful antiparasitic effect and is active against invasive agents at any stage of their development. Ivermectin is a nerve poison for parasites. The substance affects the membrane transport of chloride ions and GABA receptors, disrupting the conduction of nerve impulses, which causes paralysis and death of mature individuals and larvae.

"Ivermek" is used to treat pigeons with the following diseases:

  • nematodosis;
  • ascariasis;
  • heterokidosis;
  • capillariasis;
  • various types of entomoses.

The drug is approved for use in the treatment and prevention of parasitic diseases in pigeons. The method and mode of application depend on the specific disease.

Instructions for use of the medicine for pigeons

To treat helminthic infestations, Ivermek is given to pigeons orally, dissolving the therapeutic dose in drinking water. The exact amount of the drug is calculated based on the recommended daily dosage of ivermectin, which is 400 micrograms (0.04 milliliters of the drug) per 1 kilogram of pigeon weight.

Expert:
To prepare a dilution of the drug for the treatment of pigeons, the daily dose is increased in proportion to the population and dissolved in a quarter of the average daily volume of water.Before giving Ivermek with water, the birds are not allowed to drink for 1.5-2 hours.

Based on the average weight of an adult pigeon, for 50 birds you will need to take 0.5 milliliters of medicinal solution. To accurately measure the required amount, liquid is usually drawn from the bottle using a medical syringe. For a small volume of solution, use an insulin syringe.

For nematodes, a single use of the product is sufficient. For entomosis, the procedure is carried out three times: the solution is given again one day after the first dose, and the third time – 2 weeks after the previous dose. For knemidocoptic mange in pigeons, Ivermek is used externally. The solution is taken with a syringe and applied 1-2 drops to the neck area, under the wings and tail, lightly rubbing the liquid.

Contraindications and side effects

If the dosage and regimen are followed, pigeons tolerate treatment well. "Ivermek" is contraindicated in case of bird hypersensitivity to the components of the product. Violation of the rules for rational use of the drug can cause the development of the following adverse reactions:

  • apathy;
  • diarrhea;
  • loss of appetite;
  • tremor;
  • hypersalivation.

Mild side effects resolve on their own without requiring intervention. In severe forms of the reaction, the drug is discontinued and symptomatic treatment is carried out.

Special instructions and personal preventive measures

"Ivermek" is classified as class 3 of chemical hazard and toxicity to humans, which indicates a moderate degree of danger.
