Dogwood compote for the winter is an excellent preparation for those who do not drink sugary drinks, but prefer sour flavors. There are many options for preparing a winter drink using different fruits. One of these recipes includes compote of dogwood and sweet apples. The prepared drink helps improve immunity and prevents colds.
Features of preparing compote from dogwood and apples for the winter
During cooking, consider the following points:
- dogwood is a tart fruit, so to get a good taste, you need to add a lot of sugar;
- berries go well with fruits - grapes, apples, pears. But their use should be in such quantity that the taste of the main component is not interrupted;
- Ripe dark burgundy berries are used for the drink. If the fruits are unripe, they are tied in a plastic bag. In 2 days they will be ready.
Recipe Ingredients
To make the drink, you need to take:
- 200 gr. dogwood;
- 800 gr. apples;
- 2 l. water;
- 500 gr. granulated sugar.
How to choose products?
To make uzvar, the berries are ripe and firm. Very soft fruit will disintegrate during heat treatment. The berries are sorted and washed in cold water. Green fruits are also not suitable for the drink; because of them, the compote will have a sour taste. Apples for the drink are taken from hard, sweet varieties.
Preparing the dishes
Before filling the jars, you must first rinse well using baking soda and rinse. Then the container is poured with boiling water and placed upside down on a towel.
Containers for compote must be dry. After drying, you can add dogwood.
Important! To avoid any troubles during conservation, the choice of jars must be careful. The container is inspected for cracks, rust, and chips. If the containers are well treated, dogwood compote with apples will last for a very long time for the winter.
Cooking steps
To prepare compote, you need to follow the instructions:
- Take small firm apples. Sweet and sour varieties are better suited for the recipe. Apples should not be damaged or show signs of rotting.
- The dogwood is processed, all sepals are removed, and washed under running cold water.Afterwards it is poured into a colander to drain the water.
- It is poured into dry prepared containers.
- Place a kettle of water on the stove and let it boil. Hot water is poured into a container with dogwood, and it is covered with a metal lid. The jar is set aside for 15 minutes.
- Apples are being prepared. They are washed, cut into 4 parts, and the core is removed. Cut each part into small pieces. The peel of the apples is not removed.
- The liquid from the container with which the berries are poured must be poured into the pan. To prevent the dogwood from falling into the pan, it is recommended to put a special lid with holes on the jar. Next, add the apples and put them on the stove, turning the heat to medium.
- Sugar is added to the pan; the mixture must be stirred all the time until it dissolves. After boiling, cook for 10 minutes. Before turning off, you need to taste the syrup for sugar and decide whether you still need to add this product.
- The hot mixture is poured back into the jar and rolled up.
- The last step is to check that the container is closed tightly. The jars are turned upside down and covered with a blanket for 2 days. During this time, the uzvar will cool evenly.
Methods for storing compote
The drink is stored in the basement or refrigerator for no more than 2 years. It is advised to wrap the lids using polyethylene film, otherwise the lids will become rusty and microbes will penetrate into the containers.
The opened drink should be consumed one day before.
