Tomato Pygmy is one of the varieties intended for growing in open ground on a balcony or open loggia. Moreover, the seeds of such vegetable crops began to appear on sale relatively recently, thanks to the efforts of domestic breeders.

Description and main characteristics of the variety
Pygmy fully lives up to its name - the bushes of these tomatoes are miniature, compact, standard, determinate, and can reach only 0.3 m in height, really small compared to ordinary tomatoes grown in beds or in greenhouse conditions.
In addition to good yields for miniature varieties of vegetables, the Pygmy variety has excellent decorative properties. Growing seedlings of this tomato can be done in pots, patios, on balconies - in containers and other containers. This miniature tomato can be an excellent compactor among tall varieties of tomatoes in greenhouses and under film coverings.
The seeds of this variety, along with other vegetable crops, are distributed by the famous agricultural company Gavrish.
The description of the variety should be continued with a story about the shoots: the stems are erect, low, medium-leafed. The variety does not require formation. The first ovaries usually form at the level of 6-7 leaves, subsequent inflorescences grow through the leaf. The ovaries are collected in racemose inflorescences of 5-7 pieces each.
The characteristics of the Pygmy tomato will be incomplete without mentioning its precocity. From the moment of planting seedlings to harvesting, no more than 3 months pass. A lot of fruits grow on the bush, they are small, round in shape, smooth without ribbing - weighing about 24-26 g, the skin is quite dense, not prone to cracking. The taste of ripe fruits is excellent, the amount of dry matter is high, up to 10%. From 1 m² you can collect up to 5 kg of ripe fruits.
Ripe fruits are universal - they can be used fresh, in salads, for decorating dishes, and also in canning.
The taste qualities of ripening tomatoes strongly depend on weather conditions - in damp, cold weather the fruits have a strong sourness, in hot years the fruits are sweet and tasty.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
The advantages of the Pygmy variety include:
- possible cultivation of tomato on a balcony, window sill, as a sealant in border flower beds and in greenhouses;
- early ripening of fruits;
- fruits not prone to cracking;
- compactness of bushes;
- The variety is resistant to major fungal diseases, in particular late blight.
Disadvantages include below average yields, as well as the bushes being too small.
Nuances of cultivation
Growing Pygmy seedlings should begin in April. Grown seedlings should be picked in the phase of the first two true leaves. Seedlings are transplanted into open ground in May, at the age of 35-38 days. But direct cultivation of seeds in open ground is possible.
