[toc]
Characteristics and description of the variety: mid-early, indeterminate, large-fruited, resistant to many tomato diseases. Created specifically for greenhouse cultivation, but in regions with a stable warm climate, the Bison Black tomato is cultivated, as well as in open ground.
Can be grown all year round in heated greenhouses. A bush of this variety grows up to 1.8 m high, so it definitely requires gartering to a vertical or horizontal support. The leaves of the seedlings are light, and when the plant gains growth, they become dark green. The shape of the leaves is elongated.
The plant is tall, so “Black Bison” tomatoes are planted using the 50 x 50 cm technology. The growing season is 110-115 days.
Tomato seedlings aged 50-60 days can be planted in a greenhouse.
To improve fruit set and accelerate ripening, it is very important to remove the lower leaves of the plant and stepsons in time.
To obtain a good harvest, the stem is formed into 1-2 trunks. If you want to get larger fruits, after the 6th ovary the stem is pinched.
Fruit characteristics
Description of the fruits of the Black Buffalo variety tomatoes: large, juicy, slightly flattened in shape with uneven ribbed sides. The color of a ripe tomato is dark, purple-violet. The skin is tender and thin.
Black Bison tomatoes have a good taste and an unusual aroma with fruity notes. They are consumed fresh and in salads. In preparations, these tomatoes are usually used in the form of juice, which turns out dark, rich and tasty. These tomatoes are not suitable for whole-fruit canning and barrel pickling.
Reviews for this variety are positive. Black tomatoes have an attractive appearance and good product characteristics. The size of the fruit, depending on care, is 250-350 grams (individual fruits up to 500 grams) and the yield is about 5-6 kg per bush. The variety can be transported, but is not stored for long.
How to apply fertilizers correctly
Also important for obtaining a bountiful harvest is proper fertilization of tomatoes and watering regime. For fertilization, the following activities are carried out:
- Mineral fertilizing should be carried out at least three times during the entire growing period of the plant.
- Organic fertilizers can be applied alternating with or while watering the tomato. Black Bison tomatoes are fertilized throughout the entire growing period, after the next harvest.
It is important that fertilizing of tomatoes is carried out in a timely manner and does not exceed the norm, otherwise the tomatoes can be ruined.
- During the formation of seedlings, even before picking Black Buffalo tomatoes, they are fertilized twice with liquid fertilizers for plant growth, with an interval of 7-10 days.
- When transplanting to a permanent place, water or dip the root system of the tomato in the Fitosporin solution, which prevents infection with fungal infections and also feeds the plant with microelements.
- Then, after the top layer of soil has dried (after about 7-8 days), watering is carried out with organic fertilizers, and the next one with potassium and nitrogen fertilizers.
- After harvesting the first crop, you need to add some potassium fertilizer to replenish the loss of potassium in the soil.
