Description and characteristics of the General tomato variety

The General F1 tomato was bred by specialists from the Japanese breeding company Sakata seeds corp (the first Japanese seed company). It is successfully grown by vegetable growers in our country. This hybrid is early ripening, determinate, productive, bred for planting in open ground, but has also shown itself well when cultivated on soils protected by shelters.

The period from sowing seeds into the soil until the ripening of the first fruits is 100-105 days. The growing season is accelerated: 60-70 days.

Description of the variety: The bush is not tall (grows up to 75 cm), the internodes are short, the inflorescence is simple. The stem is thick. The leaf is pinnate and dark green.The first inflorescence is formed above the 4th leaf. Each inflorescence contains about 4-6 fruits, the weight of which can reach 200-240 grams. It is not necessary to remove the shoots from the General F1 tomato variety, however, in order to grow a strong bush, it is formed into two stems.

Another positive characteristic of this variety is the ability to form high-quality fruiting inflorescences even in dry and hot weather. Tomato "General" super-yielding variety: from 1 sq. m. you can get up to 12 kg of harvest.

Fruit characteristics

Tomatoes of the “General F1” variety have a pronounced taste and aroma with a pleasant sourness. The shape of this tomato is round, without ribs, slightly flattened at the top and bottom. When cut, the fruits are red without white fibers, moderately juicy, covered with thin, delicate skin.

“Red General” has earned only positive reviews about its nutritional qualities. These tomatoes are used mainly fresh, as well as in the preparation of tomato juice, lecho, sauces and adjika.

General F1 tomatoes do not crack and perform well when preserved. Suitable for pickling, both green and ripe.

After harvesting, at an average degree of ripeness, tomato fruits of this variety last up to two weeks without losing their presentation. These tomatoes can be stored green for up to 2 months. Well transported.

Features of cultivation

Depending on when the harvest is planned, sowing of this tomato variety is carried out either as seedlings in film-type shelters (for early harvests) or directly on the ground (for later harvests).

The advantage over competitive varieties is that General F1 tomatoes are good for secondary planting of tomatoes after harvesting early carrots, cabbage, new potatoes, onions, etc.

Disease resistance and processing

An important characteristic of the variety is disease resistance. It does not suffer from tomato tobacco mosaic virus, is resistant to tomato bronzing, Alternaria, gray spot, fusarium rash, yellow leaf curl virus, and is resistant to spotted and verticillium wilt virus.

growing features

Tomatoes become more resistant to fungal infections if mineral fertilizers containing potassium, magnesium, and nitrogen salts are used.

You can use folk remedies to achieve a better tomato harvest: wood ash (either a solution or simply dusting the soil under the bushes), bird droppings or mullein (a solution for wet feeding).

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • fruit set in hot weather;
  • yield is about 350-400 kg per hectare;
  • good taste of the hybrid;
  • resistance to tomato viral diseases;
  • resistance to fungal diseases of tomato;
  • transportability;
  • storage duration.

Flaws:

  • seeds must be purchased annually, since the quality of the variety is not preserved;
  • tomatoes “General F1” very often suffer from late blight;
  • requires a constant, competent combination of watering, as well as fertilizing (especially in secondary planting).
