Breeding developments from various research institutes continue to delight agricultural lovers with original new products. Relatively recently, a new tomato, the King, appeared. Included in the register of the Russian Federation in the mid-2000s. This is a complex hybrid, the seeds of which can only be bought in the store. But this is why it is interesting for studying in a private economy.
Has many relatives. For example, the Golden King variety will take root well in a summer cottage. Its fruits are not so large and are good not only for making fresh salads. Golden King tomato fruits are well suited for canning.
Description
The variety is tall (indeterminate). The height reaches 1.5 - 1.8 m. The bush is highly branched. The foliage is average.The first brush is formed after the 9th leaf, then comes after every third one. Number of stems - 1 - 2.
As can be seen from the description, a bush of such height is not capable of holding tomatoes on its own. Be sure to tie it to a strong support, which is done as it grows, up to three times per season.
Fruit
The variety fully justifies its ambitious name. On bushes of this height grow King of Kings tomatoes with the following characteristics:
- Big size. The average weight of large fruits is 1300 – 1500 grams. Minimum - 300 grams.
- Number of cameras – 4 – 8.
- Dry matter content - up to 10%.
- The color is bright red. The closest relative is the Pink King variety, which has a pinkish color.
- Pleasant, sweet, sour taste. In addition to microelements, fructose, antioxidants, it contains a large amount of vitamin C.
- Tomatoes are distributed 5 pieces on one brush.
- The shape is round.
- The ribbing is weakly expressed.
- Well kept. Transportable. The fruits retain their presentation for up to 35–40 days after harvesting.
The family of hybrids is quite diverse. You can plant the Golden King variety. It has juicy golden-colored fruits. The characteristics and description of the variety are quite similar, as are the conditions of detention. The Golden King variety has a lower average weight, the fruits weigh up to 500 grams.
The variety is considered a salad variety. Perfect for making juices, sauces, pies, tomato juice or casseroles. It is not suitable for canning due to its large size.
Growing
Grows well in Ukraine and Moldova. At more northern latitudes it begins to become capricious and require greenhouse maintenance. In regions with short summers it does not take root well and requires plenty of sunlight.According to reviews from vegetable growers, it is possible to grow using artificial lighting.
Greenhouse care involves regular:
- feeding;
- watering;
- ventilation.
The average temperature for favorable growth is +18 – 25 degrees. Loves cool, sunny summers. The first fruits can be obtained 110–120 days after seed germination. For lovers of medium-sized fruits, we can recommend the King King variety. Tomato has similar conditions, but the fruits are smaller - 300 - 500 grams.
It is recommended to grow the crop in greenhouse conditions. This is the real king of all tomatoes and requires respect. Despite its good survival rate and resistance to the adverse effects of soil bacteria, it has its own characteristics during courtship. Culture critically perceives sudden changes in conditions of detention.
These include:
- temperature regime;
- humidity;
- frequency of watering;
- soil condition;
- regular feeding.
All these factors can be created in greenhouse conditions, without relying on the vagaries of nature.
Seedling
Planted by seedlings. According to reviews from gardeners, seeds begin to germinate 30–35 days before planting on a plot of land. The land is prepared in advance. Required Ph is from 6.2 to 6.8. If the soil on the site has a high acidity level, you can treat it with a weak solution of lime.
When planting seeds, a simple procedure is followed. The seed is soaked in warm water for 10 minutes. This is enough time for viable seeds to absorb moisture and prepare to grow. They will sink to the bottom. Non-viable material can be easily removed from the surface of the container.As amateur reviews say, the risk of losing some of the seedlings with this treatment is minimal.
Then the suitable seeds are thoroughly dried. You can use an ordinary home hair dryer for these purposes. The outlet air temperature should not exceed +40 degrees.
The finished material is treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, rinsed for half an hour, then dried again. This will protect it from exposure to bacteria.
Seedlings are grown in home, greenhouse conditions. It is similar to the Honey tomato and develops approximately at the same time.
To form the soil composition you can use:
- peat tablets;
- complex fertilizers;
- superphosphate;
- urea
Typically, plants are placed in spacious, well-lit rooms. If there is adequate lighting, the seedlings will be larger.
It is recommended to use additional illumination with monochrome radiation of the red, blue, green spectrum. This stimulates the harmonious growth of culture.
We carry out fertilizing in stages:
- After the first full-fledged leaves appear.
- After the dive procedure.
- On the 15th day.
- Just before disembarkation.
When it reaches 15–20 cm, you can plan planting. The plant grows larger and requires more space for normal development. For 1 sq. m, the housewife usually grew 2, maximum 3 bushes.
At our summer cottage we prepare a plot of land similar in composition and amount of mineral and organic fertilizers. It is necessary to adjust the composition of fertilizers; they should contain less nitrogen.
The description of the King of Kings tomato does not end there. Despite the fact that the seeds are quite expensive, they undergo special pre-sale processing. The hybrid is complex, that is, there is no point in harvesting seed material yourself. But this has its advantages: the manufacturing company ensures the sterile development of the crop, and the chance of catching any diseases introduced from the soil is minimal.
