It’s worth talking specifically about the main qualities of the variety, growing seedlings and further care for Northern Rumyants.
History of the variety's creation
The Northern Blush tomato was bred by breeders specifically for regions with harsh climates, where summers are short and quite cool. In the conditions of our country, these tomatoes can be grown in the Moscow region, in the Urals, in a number of regions of Siberia and the Far East. These tomatoes are intended for growing in open ground, as well as under film coverings or in unheated greenhouses and greenhouses in personal gardens.
Officially, this tomato was bred at the beginning of this century, passed the necessary tests and was zoned for regions with a fairly cold climate; the date of entry of the variety into the State Register is 2010.
Basic qualities of tomato
The fruits of this variety ripen early - usually after 90-100 days; after the first leaves appear on the seedlings, harvesting can begin. The bushes belong to the determinant type; the variety is resistant to temperature drops during the period of shoot growth and fruit ripening, as well as to other changes in weather conditions.
The shoots are erect, low (0.8-0.9 m in height). The bushes do not require pinching, but it is advisable to tie all stems to supports or trellises.
The stems are slightly leafy, the foliage is soft emerald, medium in length, the same as that of all tomatoes. The flowers are simple, collected in racemes, the first raceme usually grows after the first true leaf. 5-7 brushes may appear on the bush.
The variety does not require pinching the tops and can grow both in open beds and under a film covering.
In order for all the growing fruits to ripen in the short summer season, the Northern Rumyants bushes should be formed into no more than 3 stems. The description of the variety will be incomplete without mentioning the resistance of shoots and fruits to major diseases. Since tomatoes begin to ripen in mid-summer, late blight usually does not affect these tomatoes. The plant's resistance to other diseases is above average.
The fruits are round in shape, without ribbing, the skin is smooth and quite dense. The weight of ripened fruits is about 110-120 g. The color of ripe tomatoes is bright red.
Ripe tomatoes tolerate transportation well over medium distances and have a pleasant taste.They can be used fresh, salted, or prepared into tomato juice.
The characteristics of this vegetable crop will be incomplete without mentioning the yield - up to 6-6.5 kg of crop can be harvested from one bush. Moreover, all the fruits ripen almost simultaneously.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Northern Rumyants variety
These tomatoes have a number of advantages:
- early and friendly maturation;
- the variety is resistant to late blight;
- quite cold-resistant;
- do not require stepsoning;
- high productivity.
This vegetable crop has practically no disadvantages. It should be remembered that seedlings can be planted both in open ground and under film.
Growing seedlings at home should begin two months before planting them in open ground. In cold regions, it can be planted in open ground in late May - early June.
Reviews from vegetable growers about the Northern Rumyants tomato are generally positive: they note ease of care, fairly high yields and resistance to most diseases.
