The unusual appearance and excellent taste of the new Dubovsky pink grape variety quickly gained popularity among winegrowers. This happened largely due to the fact that this variety is unpretentious, and its cultivation does not require special skills. Even a novice gardener can grow it. It attracts experienced winegrowers with its high yield.
History of the variety's creation
A hybrid variety of table grapes was obtained by S.E. Gusev, a lover of experiments in the field of breeding. from the village of Dubovka, Volgograd region.The new hybrid, which received its name from the name of the village, was the result of crossing two widely known varieties in these places - Vostorg Krasny and Yubilei Novocherkassk.
Features of the variety
The size of the cluster of Dubovsky pink grapes is gigantic. Its weight reaches 1.5 kilograms. The clusters are conical in shape and have a disheveled appearance. The weight of one berry is about 20 grams. Its shape resembles a cone with a curved tip. Ripe fruits are dark pink.
The flesh, although juicy, is still crunchy. There are no more than two seeds per fruit. The berry holds firmly on the bunch, and even after long transportation it looks as if it had just been separated from the vine.
The description of the variety would not be complete without mentioning the fact that the berry, growing to a considerable size, continues to remain green for a long time. However, this should not worry the gardener. When the time is right, it will quickly change color from green to dark pink. This happens within a few days.
This grape variety tolerates long droughts or, conversely, heavy rains. The plant can withstand winter frosts down to -23 degrees.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
This variety has not yet been sufficiently studied, and the small statistics on diseases and reactions to weather anomalies continues to be replenished with new data. But today we can confidently say that it is different:
- excellent taste;
- large size of bunches and berries;
- unpretentiousness;
- high productivity.
The only disadvantages of this variety include the need to ration the yield.
Landing rules
The process of planting Dubovsky grapes is practically no different from other varieties. It is better to plant grapes in the spring.
The ideal place to plant grapes would be the south side of a house or a solid fence. If this place is already occupied, you can put a screen or a dense fence in the east-west direction.
If planted in a newly prepared hole, its depth should be 35 centimeters, taking into account the likelihood of future soil subsidence. Experienced winegrowers prepare the soil for spring planting in the fall. At this time, the planting holes are deepened by 40 centimeters. The easiest way to measure the required depth is to use an ordinary stick with a mark of 35 or 40 centimeters.
For table grape varieties, the distance between bushes should be at least 1.5 meters. Between rows - 2.5 meters.
It is recommended to plant grapes on a specially prepared hill, with the buds of the cuttings placed along a vertical support. This method will relieve the gardener from the need to constantly tie up the vine.
A layer of fertile soil is added around the planted plant and then watered abundantly. To retain moisture, the soil is mulched.
Features of care
The first three years the vineyard requires special attention. After heavy rains or heavy watering, as soon as the soil on top dries out, it must be loosened. This agricultural technique performs three functions at once:
- weed control;
- soil aeration;
- moisture preservation.
Starting from the fourth year, the vineyard no longer requires frequent watering, as the root system becomes more developed. From now on, we must not forget about autumn pruning. It prevents bush thickening and ensures proper development of the vine. Pruning, as a last resort, can be done in the spring, but then this should be done before active sap flow begins.
Breeding
The easiest way to grow is to propagate grapes using cuttings. In addition, this method is the least expensive compared to others.
Cuttings are harvested during autumn pruning of the vineyard. For this purpose, the middle part of summer shoots is used, from among those that have already bear fruit. The method of vegetative propagation (cuttings) preserves all the taste of the berry.
