At least one cherry tree is present in every Russian garden. Bright dark red berries are delicious in compotes, filling for pies and dumplings, cherry jam and liqueurs are always an excellent treat for the table. To choose a suitable seedling for your own garden, you need to understand the abundance of varieties. The characteristics of the Uyfehertoi Furtosh cherry, a description of the variety and the nuances of its care are presented in this material.
History of origin
Ujfehertoy Furtos is a self-fertile cherry variety of Hungarian selection, based on the popular Panda.
It is named after the Hungarian city of New Belozersk, and is translated as Novobelozerskaya Curly. This city is famous for cherry liqueur and an abundance of cherry orchards. The result was a high-yielding, winter-hardy, disease-resistant variety that Russian gardeners also liked.
Description of the variety
A spreading, medium-sized tree with a pyramidal crown, produces high yields and begins to bear fruit 4 years after planting.
The fruits are large, 4.8 grams, with a pronounced cherry aroma. The stone is small and easily separated from the tender and juicy pulp. The cherries are dark red, medium ripening, a tree with a mixed type of fruiting (bouquet shoots and growth branches). Descriptions of the variety specifically indicate its high yield - an adult tree produces 20-22 kilograms of berries.
Uyfehertoy Furtosh is resistant to moniliosis and coccomycosis - the main diseases of cherry trees.
Features of cultivation
Cherry is one of the unpretentious garden plantings. Timely moderate watering, pruning and protection from pests is all that the tree needs for good fruiting.
Cherry needs:
- watering - depending on weather conditions - 3-4 times per season;
- pruning, which is carried out in the spring for mature trees;
- applying complex fertilizers for fruit trees once a year;
- protection against pests - if necessary, it is sprayed 2 times per season.
If these simple rules of care are followed, problems with the tree will not arise.
Choosing a landing site
The area where you plan to plant a cherry tree should be protected from drafts and moderately lit. Cherry can grow on non-fertile soils, but does not tolerate waterlogging, acidic or salty soil.
Landing
Cherries are planted in autumn or spring. Planting is carried out in October-November or April, depending on the region. If the winters are too cold, the immature seedling may freeze. The hole is dug before planting, size 60x60 centimeters.
A layer of drainage is added to the bottom of a deep and wide hole, and then fertile soil. It is poured into a hill, on top of which a seedling is placed and the roots are carefully straightened.
Important: before planting, the tree is placed in water for 5-6 hours so that it has wet roots when planting.
Then the hole is filled with soil, the soil is slightly compacted, trampled down with a foot, and watered.
Care
Cherry care It’s not difficult, even a novice gardener can do it.
Watering
Cherry trees are drought-resistant, but flowering plantings should not suffer from lack of moisture. This leads to crop loss. Water the cherry if the tree trunk area is too dry. Water the second time when the ovary appears. The third watering is carried out in case of severe drought, when the berries ripen. And the last time is watered in September-October.
Trimming
Young trees (up to 10 years old) are not pruned. In adult cherries, dry branches and excess shoots are removed. This rejuvenates the tree and relieves unnecessary stress.
Reproduction
Cuttings, grafting or propagation by shoots are used. Cherries can be grown from pits, but this is a labor-intensive process, and the grown seedlings are usually much worse than the mother tree in terms of yield and other qualities.
The easiest way to propagate cherries is by shoots. The roots of the young shoot are cut off from the roots of the mother plant, and it moves to the desired location.
Cuttings are commonly used in nurseries. Annual woody shoots are cut off. They are cut into cuttings with 4-5 buds. The lower leaves are removed, leaving only the top 2 leaves.The lower cut is treated with Kornevin. The cuttings are planted in prepared soil and covered with film. It is regularly removed to ventilate and the plantings are watered.
Diseases and pests
Uyfehertoy Furtosh is a variety resistant to diseases and pests. It is not susceptible to monilial burn and has average resistance to coccomycosis.
To prevent diseases, the tree is sprayed with Bordeaux mixture or treated with copper oxychloride. You can purchase a complex fungicide at gardening stores and use it according to the manufacturer's instructions. The first spraying is carried out after the buds swell, the next - after flowering.
Cherry is an unpretentious plant; it responds to minimal care with a high yield, and the taste of large, aromatic cherries and homemade preparations from this berry will delight the whole family.
