History of selection
The hybrid variety was bred by breeders S. Potapov, S. Chizhov, and was named after a famous geneticist from Russia. The variety was obtained due to the symbiosis of Forest Beauty and Olga pears. The species has gained popularity since the 1980s in the Central regions.
Description of fruits and trees
The memory pear of Zhegalov is a medium-sized tree, growing quickly, with a funnel-shaped bush. During fruiting, the crown is oval, skeletal shoots are vertically inclined. The trunk is brownish-brown in color, the branches are light gray. With pollen, a fragrant atmosphere is created in the garden, whitish inflorescences grow of extraordinary beauty. The pulp is white, juicy, aromatic, with a sweet and sour taste.

Nuances of cultivation
Pear seedlings are planted in a suitable place, on previously prepared soil, in accordance with the rules. Before planting, seedlings are prepared. It is optimal to plant the Memory of Zhegalov pear from April 25 to early May, or from the last days of September to October. In autumn, the planting material is of better quality, the trees take root more safely, and the roots are regenerated. In cold areas, they resort to spring planting.
Where is the best place to plant in the garden?
The place for the Memory of Zhegalov pear should be protected from the wind and well lit by sunlight. The variety loves any soil except sandy and gravelly. Pears grow successfully on chernozems with a neutral alkaline reaction and chestnut soil. If the plot has acidic soil, liming is carried out.
Soil preparation
The soil is prepared for planting in the fall; compost, superphosphate, and potassium chloride are added to it. The soil is plowed with a shovel and the weeds are removed. 2 weeks before planting, dig a hole 60-70 cm in diameter, 1 meter deep. The fertile soil layer is set aside, 2 buckets of fresh humus, sand and 200g of superphosphate are added. The composition is mixed and covered with film. A bucket of water is poured into the holes and 400 g of fluff is added. A peg is driven into the middle of the hole to which the seedling will be tied.
Selection and preparation of seedlings of the Pamyat Zhegalov variety
Before planting, young trees are checked for damage, and only high-quality specimens are selected. They must be 2 years old. Dried parts of the shoots are torn off from the seedlings. They are dipped in a solution that stimulates rhizome growth for 2 hours, like Matador or Epin. You can also dip it in potassium permanganate for disinfection for half an hour.
Landing process
The Memory of Zhegalov pear is planted according to the steps below.
- A seedling with a straightened root system is placed in a hole. If it has a closed rhizome, place it together with a lump.
- The tree is covered with soil, compacted, and watered abundantly.
- The seedling is tied to a support stick, the ground is mulched with peat, sawdust or humus.
After carrying out the steps below, the trees are watered again at the root.
Caring for the variety Memory of Zhegalov
Standard crop care involves regular watering, fertilizing, and loosening the tree trunk. Periodically, pears are treated against beetles and harmful diseases.
Watering rules
Pear seedlings are watered using the rain method, which involves spraying streams of water. The liquid is also applied to the tree trunk under the rhizome. 1 tree requires 30 liters of water. Adult pears are watered depending on weather conditions. In the spring, trees are irrigated when the top layer of soil dries out. Before the beginning of summer, add water 2 times. In summer, the first watering is carried out in early June, the second time in mid-July.
During dry periods, fruit trees are additionally irrigated in August and September.
Scheme for applying nutrient compositions
Fertilize the Memory of Zhegalov pear according to the scheme below.
- In the spring, the pear is fed with nitrogen compounds, they stimulate the growth of greenery. Natural fertilizer is also used as bird droppings. For 10 liters of water, you will need 0.5 kg of litter. It is infused for 1 day, after which it is poured at the root.
- During the pollen period, add 300 g of urea diluted in 10 liters of liquid.
- After the ovaries wither, add a mixture of superphosphate and sodium humate under the pear, take 0.5 kg of nitrophoska, 10 g of dry humate and 100 liters of water.
- In autumn, a mineral mixture is used for Zhegalov pears. Take 1 tbsp. potassium, 2 tbsp. superphosphate, 1 tbsp. calcium. The components are diluted in 10 liters of water.
Thanks to fertilizing, pear productivity is stimulated and the quality of the fruit improves.
Pear pruning
A pear bush is formed in the 2nd year after planting. A correctly carried out procedure allows you to trim the crown so that the tree begins to devote all its strength to the growth of new shoots.
The manipulation consists of 3 stages:
- formative pruning, allowing you to make the right bush;
- sanitary – carried out before the growing season, involves the removal of dried and damaged branches;
- supporting - the main pruning procedure, it is carried out from the beginning of March until April, parts of large shoots that are not overloaded with fruit are cut off.
Young seedlings are pruned immediately after planting. Then the skeletal branches are determined, and the future bush is formed over the course of 2-3 years. This approach greatly facilitates further crown care.
Main pollinators
The Memory of Zhegalov pear must be pollinated by nearby pollinators. You can plant varieties Bergamot Moscow, Marble, Lyubimitsa Yakovlev, Naryadnaya Efimova. In the northern regions, they have the Chizhovskaya pear, which has high frost resistance. It is not worth planting other fruit trees next to the pear.
Diseases, harmful bugs
Pears are rarely affected by fungal diseases, but experienced gardeners recommend preventative treatment. To protect it from brown spotting and beetle attacks, it is treated with Bordeaux mixture 1% and copper sulfate. Additionally, you can spray the trees with insecticides and fungicides.Provided proper care, mulching of the tree trunk circle, and fertilizer, the crop will not be subject to attacks by pests or diseases.
What regions is the variety adapted to?
